it's a Asus p5q Pro,C2Q Q9550, 4gb G Skill DDR2 1066, Xfx GTX 260 Blackedition, Have 3 hdds- 3 os installs(one xp, win7x64, win7 x64 on a ssd)
Right now it is 3.399.8 with temps around 44c while typin this.
While playing America's Army 3 it goes to 51-54c.
What is too HOT?
Will be adding a 5850 possibly a 5870 to the mix soon. Then decide if it's time for the i7 930 or not.
Also would another 4gb ram help? I would buy matching.
 
Those temps are fine. Recent (Pentium 4 and on) CPUs automatically throttle when they reach a certain point, and shut down if they cannot cool down. There is absolutely no danger of frying a recent CPU because of temperatures - I have run mine without a heatsink for a minute (before PROCHOT kicked in and shut down) just for kicks.

I would definitely suggest around 85C maximum during Linpack though.
 
Ok cool. It's on air and a Artic Freezer pro 7 cpu cooler. In a HAF 932 case, so I got some air flow.
 
definitely want to grab prime95. temps from game loads are nothing compared to what that thing can get under full. i haven't messed with that cpu, so i couldn't tell you what good operating temps will be for that. looks like you wouldn't go over 80 on that under full load with prime95, but i could be wrong
 
I mostly game and surf. Highest I saw it was 60c. After almost 2 hours of playing AA3.
