HI, everyone i just sold my old P4 Northwood 2.4C 800FSB for $120 and ordered P4 Prescotte 3.0E 800FSB for $189, i m going to give away stocked Heatsink and Ordered ThermalRight XP-90 with pcToys 92mm Tornado ( ultra speed ).
I m a hardcore gammer and am really anxious to hear if my new Processor will make a huge difference in performance of my games and will be able to OC with my MB, and will more cache 1MB as compare to 512KB make huge diff?

SPecs

Asus P4C800-E delux
512 SIngle channel PC3500 RAM
Asus Geforce 6800 Ultra
200GB HHD SATA

No, it won't make a huge difference in games. The clock frequency difference will account for an increase of maybe 5-10% in game at 640x480, but much less at normal aka high resolutions.

The additional L2 cache would make a decent improvement on performance if it weren't for some architectural compromises that had to be made. Intel was having trouble reaching the clock frequencies they wanted to reach, so they had to reduce the per-clock performance. The L2 cache and some other improvement made up the difference, basically allowing an 'E' Pentium 4 to perform the same as its 'C' counterpart.

that will suck, as I only play games at 1600x1200 res on my Asus Geforce 6800 Ultra

That won't help much at all, much less than the clock frequency upgrade. I wouldn't expect more than 1-5%, if any.

Thanks for the advice friends.

Gues ive wasted my $$$ on new Processor and expensive ThermalRIght XP-90. And THanks to INTEL

I would have to agree with everyone else. From what I have read and seen, clock for clock the northwood is faster than a presscott. The cache is only there to help the slow down problem....somewhat.

That said I would think that a 2.8C is equal to a 2.9E or since they dont make a 2.9E a 3.0E. I doubt you will notice anything at all, sorry to say. You will see a big increase in heat and power consumption

Thats right. In fact you could see a reduction in performance when compared to the Northwood at 3GHz
