I'm considering a 1000W power supply since I now have 2 R9 290s in Xfire on my current PCP&C Quad Red 750 (60A). I saw the EVGA SuperNova 1000 G2 for a decent price ($159 AR) at Newegg, and the ratings are good but there are several complaints of failures. At least it has a 10 year warranty. Any thoughts on this unit? Or is it worth $200 for the Corsair?

I really like my Cooler Master V1000, its a Seasonic KM3 based unit and has served me well with my 290CF and 3930k build.

V1000 from Coolermaster is good just an fyi it doesn't have too many 4 pin molex connectors. Normally it should be enough but if you are Watercooling and have multiple peripherals it maybe an issue.

Try and stick with Seasonic builds.

XFX is another Seasonic build, so are some Corsair units.

Even Enermax are great units. I currently have a Enermax 1250W that is running in a 24/7 mining rig with 2 R9s 290s and it has been rock solid. It just isn't a quite unit.

Seasonic 1050-X, Corsair HX 1050......can't lose with either one.

The Seasonic is fully modular, the HX is partially modular.

I got a great deal in November on the Seasonic.......I think after an instant rebate plus MIR it was $150.

I picked up an EVGA 1000 G2 for $110AR on Cyber Monday straight from EVGA, so the price could definitely be lower. That said, the unit itself seems to be performing as advertised.

I do have two complaints: the red pcie cables are hideous and the power supply is slightly too loud at idle because it doesn't have hybrid control (on/off). For what I paid, it isn't such a big deal, but if I was paying near retail, I'd opt for the platinum model that does shut its fan off during idle loads.

I also ordered some extensions to get the lipstick red cables out of view. ;)

The Hard review of the 1.5KW EVGA scares me with the 1KW version. A couple others caught my eye; the Rosewill Tachyon 1000 Platinum for $200 and the LEPA G1200 Gold for $210. No real hot deals on any right now though...maybe I'll wait to see if any after Christmas sales pop up. The Corsair reviews on Newegg seem to combine all different sizes besides the 1KW units. A common problem I'm seeing on many units are stiff or poorly designed cables including the Corsairs. Does a single rail design have an advantage in flexibility over multiple rails?

The 1500 and 1000 are built by different manufacturers on totally different platforms.

I was at Microcenter and stumbled on the Corsair HX 1050 for $180 after $20 rebate, so I decided to get it. Have these been updated since the 2011 Hard review? The review says it's Silver rated but the box says Gold rated. Maybe some of the problem areas have been upgraded.
