Hey guys im in the market for an 8 bit panel. I decided i wanted to go with an 8bit panel rather than a 6bit because color reproduction is way more important to me than response time since i do play games but only once in awhile. I use my computer way more for programming and such. Im wanting to stay in the low $300 range. The two panels im currently look at are the samsung 940t and dell 1905FP. I have seen hardly any info about the 940t but i seen a pretty good review of the dell over at anandtech. The dell is now on sale for $313.00 but i will have to pay for tax which is about $20.00. Today the 940t is at newegg for 314.00 (regular 319.00) with free shipping but i wouldn't have to pay tax. They both come with 3 year warranties. So which lcd do you guys think i ought to go with or is there another choice i should consider that i haven't looked at?

thanks,
ncage

I've always been told "An 8-bit panel can display 16.7M colors, a 6-bit panel displays way less".
I've never heard anyone challenge that.
Also, my Bro. paid ~ $500 a year ago for 19" Dell 1905FP and loves it for its text and nice colors and for games,
$350 delivered sounds like a good deal.
Dunno, about the other 19". Hope this helps.

Hyundai B90A if you can do without a DVI input. Color replication is 95% perfect. It doesn't get much better than that.

HP L1955 excellent 8-bit panel and is on sale for $350. Better response time over the other 2 choices 16ms>20ms, also a way brighter monitor(1000:1), and features one of the best stands out(tilt, pan, swivel, etc.). My advice to you would be to google some reviews.

Hey, Ncage, forget my "1905FP" vote------and go with Nextman's recommendation. It sounds like an incredible value. Your hunt is over.

I was just about to author an article regarding my 1905FP and gaming. Before I made my purchase I read numerous reviews that complained of the ghosting being to noticeable for enjoyable gaming. Since I do a good amount of gaming I was reluctant get any LCD higher than 16ms. Then I found a couple of stackable Dell coupons and picked this beast up for just over $250 with tax and shipping :D Fast forwarding a bit the first thing I did once I hooked it up was fire up Half-Life 2 and there it was, lots and lots of ghosting. :( So needless to say I was dissapointed, but this isn't the end of the story. I exited out of my game and and continued to play around with some of the features and settings. I played around with the rotating display (great for webpages) and adjusted the brightness, ran some color calibration tests, things like that. Once I got bored with adjusting I really wanted to play some HL2, regardless of the ghosting. However this time when I fired up the game all of the ghosting that was very apparent before was now minimal if not non existant ! What gives I thought. Then it hit me, this thing is an LCD sorta like those in your common calculator. How many times have you used a calculator left out in the cold and noticed the slow response of the display ? Well, I have many times primarily because I rarely ever did homework and my bag spent most of its time left overnight in my car. In sumation those 20ms monitors do suck the big one for gaming, that is, until they've warmed up. After that it's picture perfect performance ;) So now I always allow my LCD about 10 -15 minutes of warmup before I start gaming. BTW I love my 1905FP

I have a Dell 1905FP at work and can attest to the fact that it is a nice monitor. Great adjustability, pivoting picture , great picture after adjustment as it is VERY bright out of the box and a good price.
Dell has a great return policy which I used on the one I bought for home use. There are two LCD panels used in this screen - one is 8MS the other is 20MS. The one I have at work uses the 8ms panel. The one Dell shipped when I bought one for my house used the 20MS. The 20MS ghosts noticeably and gave me a headache to use. Most of my usage is internet, business apps, a little photo work and some gaming. If anything the colors were a bit nicer on the 20ms than on the 8ms panel.
I ended up going with two BenQ FP91G+'s which work great for me but do not meet your 8 bit spec.

Do you know if that deal your speaking of is still going on? I hope so id love to get it for that price.

yeah me too ! but I've yet to see a deal that good on this LCD since. Keep checking slickdeals.net, they post almost all Dell coupons for free or you can check ebay for Dell coupons. You'll have to pay with ebay but the money it will save you will more than make up for it. Just FYI I used two coupons, one was for $xx.xx off $300 or more and the other was a straight up 20% off. I recommend looking for two stackable coupons like that. Good luck. Send me PM if you find a great deal on it cause two of these would be

I seriously don't trust newegg's specs for monitors, especially on new monitors. I found numerous errors (i was looking specifically at the color depth) in their monitor section. Newegg is also the only store that even specifies a color bit depth. The manufacturer doesn't say it.
T'Man, in times of doubt, check the manufacturer's website for true specs.

I'm not sure the manufacturer's website is the best place for "true" specs either. Best to check reviews if there are any. Manufacturers will embellish the specs.

I seriously dought this is an 8 bit panel. Sure its 16.7 mil colors with dithering. I don't believe 8bit panels get much below 16ms for thier response time.

They have 6ms 8bit panels. But I'm not sure if the vp920b is 8bit though, if the contrast ratio was 700+ I would really be interested.

Try to read closer, I said that the manufacturers website doesn't list the color depth.

My 1905FP isnt doing too well according to the next thread's response time test. Maybe a bit of motion blur is a good thing in a game ? Excuses, excuses.

I believe the Viewsonic VP930 is an 8-bit panel. In any case, color reproduction on mine is almost as flawless as on my CRT. Make sure to use DVI.
