Who needs 'em? I use an external USB2.0 burner if I need to load software or whatever.

When you have 16 computers it doesn't make sense to put a CD drive in every one. Besides, they are ugly, noisy and suck a lot of power.
 
is each of the rings on the left side a seperate piece?

Is that mini-itx?

Looks very nice. Wouldn't be out of place in a "B" SF picture as prop in a lab.

It's great, Skip. Kinda has that Art-Deco theme going for it, and it works well! Hope to see more from you, very talented work at hand here.
 
that is a very inspired blend of art, beauty, and technology. You just don't see things like that today. These days if it doesn't light up, reflect, or otherwise resemble a spaceship somehow, it just doesn't seem to cut it. Would definitely like to see more of that come out. Excellent vision!

Hope no one minds me ressing this old thread, but I had to express my admiration. That is a beautiful mod!

I'm in the design stage of my own art deco mod right now, so I couldn't resist seeing what others have done. I considered basing my design on a radio, too, but decided to design from scratch instead.
 
Thanks for the feedback! The Zenith has been getting a lot more attention these days than when I built it four years ago. Odd.

I have built many more art deco-inspired computers since then. The most famous one's worklog is posted here on HardOCP.

This looks like it belongs in Bioshock. At first I thought you actually modded an old tube radio! That would be heresy :D
 
Impressive stuff, slipperyskip. It would never have occurred to me to construct a microphone style PC case.

Looking at your site I find I've admired one of your cases - the Decomatic - for a while now. It gives one of the effects I'm going for, which is to create something new that could pass for authentic Art Deco furniture.

I have some basic sketches done so far, if I digitise would you be interested to see?

By the way, not so much of the "old fart" stuff, I'm 26 ;)
