My first post, go easy on me:D
This topic might have been beaten to death here before but I hope the the knowledgeable members here could give me a more "tailored" answer, as after hours of reading forums I still can't come to a conclusion. Could someone give me a few recommendations please.
I'm planning to buy a monitor in a few days after my move.

I would like to find a monitor with:
-1920x1200 (1080 is a bit too narrow for me)
Edit: -non-TN (or a TN with viewing angle without noticeable color shift)
-ghosting can't be too serious (for those fast action games)
-prefer matte screen (glare from the lights are annoying)

Coming from a 17" CRT:eek:, the narrow viewing angle from the laptops drive me crazy!
True 8-bit colour would be a plus, but a good 6-bit TN panel should be tolerable I think?
I would be mostly for watching movies, browsing web, playing fps games, a little photo editing, (nothing serious, a few photos every once in a while) and of course doing research/ typing reports (those real estate would come in handy here!)
The cheaper the better of course, but I think I could spend around 350USD
Around 24" to 25" would be fine
I don't need it to be super bright, it'll kill my eyes in 10 minutes

If there are people on here from Singapore, where/which store could I get monitors at a reasonable price without getting ripped off?

I assume you mean TN, not PN.
You might find it hard to get a new IPS or PVA 1920x1200 for $350, but you never know.
Here are 2 models you should be looking for:
HP ZR24W - ips
Dell U2410 - ips

Spend some more time reading the display forum, you'll find more displays that meet your criteria.
Some older models, that you might find refurbished:
HP LP2465 - pva
NEC MultiSync LCD2470WNX - pva

I think you should reconsider 1080 instead of 1200. It'll be easier to get a 1920x1080 monitor with EIPS for $350 than an IPS monitors at 1920x1200.

What in the world is a PN? The ASUS 25.5" TN monitors seem to have a pretty good rep for that kind of tech.

PS There really aren't ANY 24"-25" IPS panels for $300 available unless you manage to find one used. You can get a 23" one for around $300 though. Dell U2311h and NEC ea231wmi would be your best bets there but they have 1920x1080 resolutions. And you stated you wanted 1920x1200.

Dell U2311h and NEC ea231wmi are the only ones with e/IPS and around $300 right?

I've read some 25.5" ASUS VW266H users complaining that the viewing angle is quite narrow for it, moving the head a little and the color changes quite a bit. Anyone with first hand experience?

I'll consider Dell U2311h and NEC ea231wmi with 1920x1080 too, but I still strongly prefer a 1200 if it is available, it feels less cramped...

size isn't of a big concern, +/- a few inches would be fine, but I do like the capability to watch 1080i/p vid.

thanks zorobabel,
I just did a quick serarch HP ZR24W is around 400, which is still ok, i don't want to spend much more than that though

There is also the Viewsonic vp2365wb. LG also makes a monitor (since it is there panel that those 3 are using) based on the same panel, but I'm not sure if it is available in North America or Europe, so this is mostly academic.

If you are set on a 1920x1200 monitor of similar quality as a 1920x1080 one, in the current market expect to pay a hefty premium, so it is up to you whether it is worth it or not.

After dealing with both Asus and Newegg about my failing VW266H, it'll be my first and last Asus LCD and LCD purchase from Newegg.
