I've been looking for a 1920x1200 display, and I'm on a budget of about $300-$350 CAD.

I was originally looking at a BenQ G2400W, but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere i've checked.

I'll be using this for a 360 as well as my desktop..

looking for suggestions, don't want to shoot myself in the foot on this one.

I picked up the Samsung 2443 1920x1200 for 299 at Future Shop on Boxing Day, it usually sells for about $339 at most Canadian online retailers but you can usually price match or get free shipping to get a lower price.

It's amazing for games but it's a TN panel so not as nice a picture as it could be.

I believe the G2400WD replaced the G2400W, and you can still find those online but I'm not sure if it'll be below 350$CAD. The V2400W is a nice replacement for it, but doesn't have a VESA holes for a new mount if the asymmetrical stand it comes with bothers you.

It's the same panel that I'm aware, and has HDMI in as well.

Due to having rather limited options, I picked up an Acer X243w for about $240, but will be returning it (six dead pixels).

Not quite sure what to do at this point. Maybe a smaller monitor, or saving for something a little more expensive.

I did find some 1920x1200 BenQ's online, but either the price or the return policy is preventing me from actually making the purchase.

Good 1920x1200 monitors are going to be pricey. I know I'm happy I found mine as an open-box clearance at Circuit City for cheap.

Since you will also be using your Xbox 360, you could look at some of the 1920x1080 displays, if you don't mind losing 10% of your vertical resolution with your desktop. I know that bothers me and I would never be happy about using a 16:9 instead of a 16:10 but on the bright side I think they tend to be a little cheaper.

vertical workspace is one of my primary concerns, the 360 is a secondary use of the monitor, so I can live with letterboxing.

HP w2408h - 269$ CAD at Staples.

I think I saw this either there or at future shop. It seems quite alright, but I don't know if I'd get it because of the glossy screen. It's not so much of a problem on my laptop, due to the angle I view it at, but the reflection starts to bother me when I'm looking at the screen directly.

Ah, glossy screens are one of those things you either love, or hate. I prefer a glossy screen most of the time, save for a brightly lit room.

Yea, I considered a 16:9 monitor until I saw them in the store. Vertical space on them is too short for most daily PC use IMO. Lots of games are giving us pseudo widescreen too by just cutting off the top and bottom of the image area and zooming it so you gain no FOV at all compared to 4:3, which sucks, on 16:9 it will be even more top/bottom cut off. The only thing they are better for is watching DVDs on.

Yeah, it's funny how a TV looks normal at 16:9 but a monitor looks squished. Maybe because we're all still used to 4:3 monitors?

If anyone was interested in the HP w2408h at Staples, I sent them an asking about in-store avaliability and received this response.
