1900x1200 resolution not sticking

Hi,

Thanks of the advice of the forum I ended up replacing my X600 with a PowerColor HD2400Pro.
I installed the latest drivers from the ATI web site (9.5 - I believe).

I have one problem: the selected resolution doesn't stick. Whenever I reboot, it reverts back to 640x480, 8 bit color. I can set it back from Catalyst. However, after the reboot it will go back.

Two more pieces of info:
1.) I can change the resolution only from Catalyst - not from the windows display settings dialog !!
2.) As a test I did run directx test. After the test comes back from the 3D test (rotating cube) the screen resolution reverts back to 640x480 as well !!


What could cause this?

Ok, one more data point;

I thappens as well during a user switch.

I would roll back to a an older graphics driver first off.

completly uninstall the drivers. you can also "FORCE" a resolution thru CCC, CCC>Display Manager> Display Properties and click the "FORCE" button.

So, I did a complete uninstall with the ATI uninstaller. rebooted - the works.
Windows XP could not identify the card after reboot. I put in the CD that came with the card. I believe version 8.5 driver. Rebooted. Changed the resolution and color. Reboot I'm loosing it again.
I don't need to click the force button. Simply, selecting the resolution in Catalyst is OK. Just doesn't survive a reboot (as described before). Also, I can only change the resolution from Catalyst at all. No change happens when selecting from the Windows display properties.

btw. does anyone know where the current resolution is stored in the registry?

to me that sounds like a windows issue, something like the registry reverting before the installation. Try using a different user.
