In general would a smaller screen have overall better quality and performance then a larger screen?I need to buy a new monitor and 19" is big enough for my eyes so the only reason i would get anything larger would be if it was better quality and performance.
 
it all depends on what resolution the monitor is at.. they recomend 1600x1200, but before my old 19" burnt out i had it at 19x14 and had no problems. My friend has a 23" CRT and his image quality is to drool over. Its like watching a ubar hdtv screen x100 better image quality, but he also payed like a grand for the monitor. I think it was a NEC Im not sure exactly of the make.
 
Usually the bigger the monitor the higher the modes will go. My Hitachi 21" does 1600x1200@90Hz, or 2048x1536@75Hz for example. But it really just depends on the specs & dot pitch. Generally speaking a good 21"+ CRT will have just as fine a dot pitch as a good 19" model. The 21" will usually do a higher mode though.
