19" ViewSonic Widescreen $299

I've been eyeing this monitor for a few days now. I was thinking about buying it at $309 yesterday but I see they dropped it a bit lower to $299. Very tempting, thanks for the post.

Newegg sure ended that sale quick. If anyone is still interested, Amazon has dropped their price to $309 but they have free super saver shipping so it actually ends up cheaper than the original deal because at Newegg it was $299 plus 14.50 shipping. Of course shipping would of been quicker at Newegg I'm sure...
 
I don't really understand the desire for a low res widescreen like this...you're actually getting fewer pixels than with a 4:3 17 or 19 incher. I guess just the sexiness of widescreen must be behind it.
 
well sometimes less pixels is better... then you don't have to upgrade your video card and text is easier to read (because it's bigger)
 
you can pick up that monitor anytime at costco for $299. won't pay for shipping and won't have to deal with newegg's dead pixel policy.
 
What is the deal w/ Newegg's 8 dead pixel replacement policy? I hear people complain about this a lot, anyone have any comments on it?

That's where I bought mine for my wife's office. I have not seen it there recently, though. We have been very happy with the monitor. I did try it out for gaming for a couple weeks on my system. In HL2, with native widescreen support, it looked gorgeous, but there was slight tearing at times.

It does not look as good in BF2, which does not have native wide support. There is a fix for this--you adjust one of the .ini files I think--but I did not try it as I was only checking it out for a couple weeks. But, that is going to be an issue with any widescreen monitor. Craziness that DICE did not do this in the game, but that's another thread.

If my budget were capped at $300 for a new panel, I'd give this a serious look. Text and general computing is sharp and easy on the eyes. Gaming is pretty, again, at least until pushed very hard when a little tearing sets in. I would recommend it.
 
I have the VA2012wb (the 20.1" version) I have to say it rocks. I got it at costco for 399. I personally went with costco so I could keep returning them until I found one with zero dead pixels. Took me 3 tries.

Some of us can't read text that is the size of a gnat.

It seems this monitor is $299 at Costco, but I'm not about to register just so I can compute shipping, someone else do it and report back.
