OK so I got a 17" LCD right now running 1280x1024 of course. Most 19's I'm looking at run 1440x900 whereas the 20's run 1680x1050. I mostly game, and Internet stuff. I've got a 7600GT so 1440x900 is no problem 1680x1050 is my limit. Also I'm budget conscious. Several 19's are at the egg for $200 or less where 20's seem to start closer to $275 and go way up from there.

How much difference does that one inch make? Or is the real difference the resolution?

Well I'd recommend against a 20" for serious gaming at native res I'd only get one if you see a video card upgrade in the near future. I've got a monitor that runs 1650x1080 and a 7600gt and it just doesn't cut it at native res. I'm currently waiting out dx10 cards and until then I game on my 19". It all depends on how much more money you want to invest soon, if you can handle low effects for a while and possibly run below native res.

I am completely happy with my 19" WS (1440x900). It is a samsung 940bw that I got for 199 on sale at Best Buy. It is great for gaming, 4ms response and has vibrant colors and to me good black levels. I know my vid card could not power a 20" at native res but it can easily power my 19". You should check it out.

I know for me 1 inch was huge . I had the LG 19" Ws from bestbuy for 250 then i returned it it had one dead pixel in the top right corner
and i got the LG L204wt at circuit city for 309.99 and now when i play games i feel more immersed i dunno why its only 1inch but for me it just seems alot bigger also the resolution of 1680x1050 is a sweet res to have also i have more res options thare supported so i can scale down easier than with the 19inch also the 19inch for some reason the colors weren't as good as teh 20inch like in dvd movies teh flesh tones were off and looked more grainy. The colors are alot more accurate on the LG L204wt so it was worth it for me in the end to spend about 60 dollars more iam alot more happier and oh yea
i can run these games at 1680x1050 no problem what so ever with everything on Sin HL2 HL2 episode one & WOW
BF2 doesn't support 1680x1050 or at least it doesn't have that option in the game i run it at some weird res like 1300 something
I have P4 3ghz prescot 2gigs pc3200 ddr dualchannel ATI x800xl agp
and i can play games at lower resolutions and it doesn't look that bad
like some people say about lcd if its not in native res
but i feel like with 20" i have more options
i hope this helps
:D

yeah that l204wt is the bomb! it uses an 8bit panel unlike alot of the 19's, giving it better picture quality, paid 279$ for mine from CC after 10% coupon

What about Oblivion, F.E.A.R and upcoming Crysis? In my opinion interpolation is even worse than turning down the effects in a game depends on how well a monitor does it (even then)

Yeah I was also questioning how good a 7600GT would be at Crysis [not very] and FEAR its not hitting 60fps average

If you tried Crysis on a 7600gt, you'd have a crises :p

I'm gonna upgrade my pentium d to sli'd 7600gts to run windows vista.

Well yes and no. Crysis will run on a 7600gt it just won't run maxed out or at high resolutions or with high fps'.

BTW, si8nce the 1680x1050 resolution is also common in laptops more then 1440x960, it's a good idea to become 3 inches longer so you can play with your games
