19 inch CRT (help me decide)

This monitor will be used in an office environment, no real gaming, mostly text text and more text. Think email and word processing. I am open to any flat 19 inch avaliable for ~220 shipped. Currently it is between these two:

Which to get? Right now I am leaning towards the 997 bc of the specs...
 
I Bought the 997DF and It is Honestly one of the Worst Monitors Ive ever used.

I now have the MItsubishi 930SB and it is The overall best Monitor Ive ever seen and used. I am saying this Monitor is on par with $1600 sont Trinitrons

It might be a little more expensive than the samsungs but Well worth it. I woulkd save up the extra money and get the 930

I know....I have one of those monitors (the NEC version) and I LOVE it. However I need this monitor to be under 220 shipped, this is a very firm limit. Right now choice #1 is the G90Fb, I even saw a 955DF and it looked mediocre. Thanks for the reply, I will stay away from shadow masks now.

I mean alot of People Like the Samsungs, But those are the ones who have never used Apature grille.


I think The Samsung will be fine thogh for the price. I mean they arent the best but They are Better than alot of Other companies


Viewsonic is a 5 star company and Samsung is about a 3 or 4 star

Reverse the comment-- Samsung wins hands down on LCDs, loses hands down on CRT's.
For your money, you might as well go with a Samsung- it will work fine for many applications, unless you can find a similerly priced Viewsonic/Optiquest/NEC/Mitsubishi that handles refresh rates better; that is where Samsung really lets you down on their CRT's.
 
After looking at both monitors on Newegg's site and being discontent with the specifications, I went to Samsung's site, where I was subsequently unable to find the proper information. What I want to know is the refresh rate at 1280x1024-- is it 85Hz+ for the 997? Just FYI, the 955 is discontinued and was obsolete upon introduction to the market; <<extends 10-foot pole>>. IF the 997 can produce >85Hz at 1280x1024, that should work fine; good luck finding the information (go Samsung!).

Yeah, from what I can tell, that looks to be the best bet for the price range. 1280X1024@85Hz would do anyone fine.

Please Vinny, go away. Real simple: calling Samsung a 'crap' company is just plain stupid. They are one of the largest companies in the world, and produce many leading products, on top of producing THOUSANDS of quality products used ALL OVER the world. You cannot get away from Samsung, just like you cannot get away from Sony (and we'd like to get away from them more).

I mean, from your grammer, typing ability, and spelling I must assume you are somewhere between 10-12 yrs old, and doing miserable at school. From your ignorence and persistence, and general lack of respect, you seem more like my sister's 2 year old. Good day.

And to further support that Samsung even admitted to it that they has a Mass Defective batch at North eastern retailers. I have met many other online who have had the same problem as i did. And dont say its supposed to happen becouse I currently have 2 new CRts 1 Apature grille and 1 shadow mask and dont get that effect on either.

Wow. Just plain wow. I feel so sorry for myself for actually following those links and putting myself through the pain to try and understand your posts. The Bronx? I guess that explains a little bit about you. And I thought Texas had a crappy public education system.
 
You said they made crappy LCDs as well, I was clarifying that they do not. They make the worst CRTs imaginable, but the best LCDs. By the way, my suggestion is with Sony or Viewsonic, they make great CRTS.

No I went to Regis High school which is one of the Higest ranked High schools in the country. I also Currently attend Carnegie Mellon University as a Computer Engineering major. So I guess that does explain a little bit about me

I guess they must have been bad then, why did you follow. I am happy and Love living in the Bronx. I wouldent change a thing either. I sure as hell wouldent want to live in texas.

Sony doent Make Comsumer CRTs anymore, This is why I recommend the Misubishi 930Sb being the best monitor for the money. The Viewsoncs are Shadow mask and The P models are a Apature grill in the center and shadow mask on the outside combination which leaves shadowing of the text in the corners



I disagree with samsung making the best LCD displays, In My opinion AU Optronics makes the best Displays. After seeing the 710T and then the VP191b. I was More impressed with the viewsoncs, darker blacks and less Motion Blur

So you mean to say that you're proud of how far being a pampered rich kid has put you? If you have the education you claim (I have lost my will to research), it obviously doesn't show through with professionalism or objectivity. These two things alone can validate an opinion on this forum, and you present neither. THAT is the reason people are 'following' you. If you have a strong opinion that counters popular belief, then you had better be able to put it solidly into perspective. And if you are going to say one thing to the extreme, then go and say the EXACT opposite, then you shouldn't have said anything in the first place. I find it hilarious that you have the time and money to go through these products, tossing them aside ignorently without being even remotely capable of using your experience to actually help someone; in fact, it has been documented that you have really only been able to hurt. $80 is too much to spend because some idealistic rich kid has a strong unfounded opinion.

They wanted to focus on their LCD business; they believe, like many companies, that LCD's are the wave of the future, period. Recent LCD's have shown us that CRT's are all but obselete, only a few mroe generations to go and they will be both completely obselete and more expensive. Hence, I pay attention to the Displays forum in order to monitor progress.

Becouse after They spent 30 years mastering the trinitron technology, they really cant get any better than a .22 Dot pitch on a apature grill. I guess they will work on New display technolgies such as LCDs

You do realise that my comments were designed to expose to you how you were portraying yourself, not how you actually live? Do you really believe that I thought I actually knew how you lived? Keep in mind, this is about YOUR shortcomings and how it is affecting OTHER people. If I ask for help or information in this forum, I for damn sure do not want someone of your qualities attempting to steer me with their own politcal agendas and personal inexperienced opinions. When people lack experience, they say it up front here; thus, their comments have legitimate grounds and can then be helpful to other people. Please begin to learn, maybe that's something you are good at; usefully participating in forums is something you obviously are not.

I run a 955DF for primary and a 900IFT for my secondary. I have to say I like them, clean and clear. Am fixing to switch over to two Samsung 910T's. I like them, have seen them in action, and have to say it is one of the best looking and responsive monitors I have seen. But to each his or her own.

My two cents.
