Dell now have the 1801fp for sale. It looks like a mini 2001fp! Anyone know the specs for it? I can't find them anywhere.

oooOOOooo, i might get this if it's a 16ms panel instead of the 2001fp...oooOOOooo

it still does not say the response time of the monitor, but it does look sweet :D. damn, soooo tempting.

It looks like it's just a 1800FP with a new casing to match it's brothers/
Either which way, I should be picking one up by the end of week, I'll let you guys know how it is.

EDIT:
I just called tech support and I had them verify it about four times...

The 1801FP is the exact same monitor as the 1800FP with a different housing, and some added features.

Meaning, it uses the same LCD. Definately getting one now.

ohhhhhhhh $521 after discount and free shipping.. very tempting as i need a lcd desperatly.. now if they would only offer a stackable coupon, i'd be all over that! :)

They could throw in a free toaster and I still wouldnt buy it until I see a couple of reviews and find out what the response time is on it.

why not? It's family makes a good LCD, and if you don't like it than there is also a month to return it.

good point dude, im sold :D

remember the first GeForceFX?? Not saying the 1801fp will be a dissapointment, just saying if it has similar ghosting issues like that of the 1901fp or the backlighting issues of the 2001fp, then I dont want to bother with it. I had a hell of a mess on my hands returning the 2001fp I bought last month. Dont care to go through that again.

Let us know how the 1801fp is and how long it took Dell to get it out to you. Id love to have two of these LCDs if they are awesome.

Too bad Dell doesn't have those kicka$$ deals that they had last year for the 1800fp.

It will probably have one soon. They had a "kicka$$" deal when both the 1901fp and 2001fp first came out last year.

Don't think it'll be as low as when I was able to get the 1800fp for $345.

that kills me, to know they were selling that lcd for that low and now even AFTER tons of discounts its 500.. bah that sucks

For those that have the old dell 1800fp how good is it for web browsing and movies. How does it compare to the 1901fp. I'm not sure whether to get the 1801fp or the 1901fp now that the 1801fp has all the extra features that the 1901fp has.

No pivot, but it's a great lcd with little or no ghosting for most people. I don't see any at all.

yea... the dell deal ended, but screw it I just can't bear to pay 500bux for the 1801 when I know people have gotten the 1800 (same thing) for around $150 LESS.. I'll be patient and wait for them prices to dip..

Just got an 1801FP from Dell (produced in Jan 2004) and it does seem to be the same panel as before according to the specs included. But I think they put a brighter backlight in the thing since it's up to a 400 to 1 contrast ratio. I had to turn the brightness down and it's still hurting my eyes. Also, specs say 30ms typical responce. Oh yea, the big hit it's the same screen, it's still a BGR panel.

This thing looks great, makes my trinitron look like and out of focus piece of crap.

Got mine yesterday, also seems like the same panel. But I got a stuck subpixel, time to exchange. :/

I had a couple pixels that looked stuck until I massaged them out. Only took a very light touch with a soft cloth and they were gone. Try it before you send it back. I was surprised it worked, but I barely touched the screen and the pixel was fixed. Majic. All pixels working great now.

I also downloaded a demo of pivit pro to rotate the screen. Seems to work great.

Can anyone say anything about the 1800FP's ghosting/overall quality? I've heard great things about this LCD in this forum, and I need to buy one soon for my new rig which I will build in a couple of weeks. This seems like a killer deal!

Read Ozzeign's post on "Is XXX monitor Dell good?" There is slight ghosting, but it's nowhere near the smear that other gray to gray challenged 25ms panels experience. I've played Half Life and America's Army on it. I notice the ghosting if I look for it, but I really don't mind it. I kinda like the smothing effect it gives edges, can turn down my AA and still be content with the image.

In regards to the stuck subpixel, I tried rubbing it. Many people have received good (1800FP) panels, so I'll just hope for a better one because it's a mature panel production at this point. And I have a manufacturing defect as well so I have a legitimate reason to exchange. The casing on the right side has some pretty noticeable backlight leakage on anything other than a white background. I wish the pixel was fine, and then I wouldn't nitpick too much. But once you know about a defect in something, you just get drawn to it and annoyed by it everytime you look at it. I have a school project I did where I made one mistake in its creation, and I can no longer look at it because I just get drawn to my mistake.

All in all, this panel is great, and if Dell drops the price down to <$400 anytime soon, or get replaced with something superior in that price range, I'd love to get another as long as they don't change the bezel/base.
