I'm helping a friend find a good brand, i7 720 or better laptop with a decent quality monitor, which has a 5850 or better discrete graphics card (whether nV or AMD). In addition, it must have an SSD and a BD drive.

Is it possible for $1800 (lmgtfy: always missing one of the mentioned features)? Since I have no recent experience with laptops I'm open to suggestions, including modifying the above or waiting for SB in Q1 2011 :p.
 
It will be wise to buy one with regular HD and BR-D and than switch the HD to SSD, with the price most of the company offers, you can get your own SSD for cheap and get external enclosure for $10 for extra space.

Oh and with dell/HP you can just order re-installation disk for few extra $ for ease if you want to do clean install of it on SSD.
 
I would wait couple of days to see the new Sandy bridge line, Asus G73SW should be unvail and probably preorders will start, should be close to $1800 for the A1 version, probably a XA1 version can come in the future with only 1hdd $1500, so you can add the ssd and end up close to your target $1800.
 
MSI GX660R might be a good choice. Priced from XoticPC, it comes to $1737 with the 80GB X-25M along with the standard 320GB drive

I just got one without a ssd and I like it alot so far. Theres some noticeable keyboard flex on the left side of the keyboard, but its doesn't bother me at all when I'm touch typing. The speakers are the best I've heard from a laptop, but I haven't heard the XPS with the JBL speakers yet.

[edit] The cooling on it works better than I expected too. I just ran IBT with 5 passes on the 2048MB setting. the warmest it got with the standard settings is 80*C, and even at that the fan is still quiet, I can barely hear it over the mini fridge in the same room. With the fan turbo thing on, which is much louder, the hottest it got was 75*C. Right now its just sitting around 41*C.
