1) Figure out your budget
$1800. This will have to include shipping costs. We do not have sales tax here in Oregon.
I'm not counting MIR in that. I can build my own easily enough though i'm fine with
buying pre-built too.
2) Figure out which components you would need for your setup.
I have a case, case fans, keyboard, mouse, speakers, Win7 x64 and mechanical hard drives.
Looking for motherboard, Intel Ivy Bridge, PSU, RAM, reliable 120gb+ SDD to use as system drive,
optical drive - bluray reader is fine but not required(I have one in my other machine), or a single DVD burner.
I'm not opposed to a self contained liquid cooling setup. But I really don't overclock.
Mostly interested in a near silent machine.
I will need a monitor. At least 24". I'd like two but i'll only game on one. Lot's of good
black friday deals out there!
If I could get a single 2560x1440 27" monitor I would but I don't think it would fit in the budget.
Looking for an Nvidia video card for physx for a particular game. I have a 670gtx in my other desktop and a
Radeon 6970 i'm not using at the moment so i'm not in a rush to get a card
right now if it can't fit in the budget. If I get one now i'd like it to at least be a little bit of an upgrade over
my 670. I don't game a lot, just GW2 and Planetside 2 right now. In the future I may add a 2nd card, but not right now.
So whatever PSU I get now will need to support that.
Onboard sound is fine for me.

Gaming, photo editing, video encoding. I rip and re-encode blurays currently.
My wife has a photography hobby she hopes to take professional someday.

gigabit lan, usb 3, sata 6, support for up to 32gb ram, 2 PCI-E 3.0 16x
5) Determine whether or not you are planning on overclocking any of the components
Will not be.
6) Determine how long you want your machine to last.
2-3 years if you ask me. Longer if you ask my wife.
7) DO SOME RESEARCH
Trying to. Stuck at work today and tomorrow, 12 hour days, and i'd like to order the parts tonight or tomorrow
to take advantage of black friday deals. This was a rather sudden thing as I wasn't planning on building a new
machine until my co-worker told me he wanted an imac and I offered to sell him mine.

Wherever the deals are. I get most stuff from newegg but amazon, zip zoom fly, tiger direct and any
other reputable merchant are fine. There is a local best buy here. Fry's is about 50 miles away from
me but if the deals are good i'll make the trip.
