they better pick up the pace if they intend to get all the way to 179.99 prior to rolling out the Big Bang II drivers.

Did a quick run through with them, they seem okay but they still don't downclock properly.

Well, I like 'em - all of my scores increased - my average Crysis FPS increased 4% or so...

Except now my card doesn't DOWNCLOCK! I came from the 177.70's which downclocked perfectly dangit. Might be going back to 'em. Freakin' nV better fix this shizzle.

quick question about the sli increases. i game at 1920x1080 and i notice some lag/jitters even with my fps never going below 40. would i better going back to my old p5n-e and getting another 8800gt or just saving pennies for gtx260 or hd4870?

Even though it says right in the notes "enables phyx on 8 series', I can't select one 8800gts for physx and 1 for graphics, that button is not there.

Do you have a monitor connected to the second card with the desktop extended to it? Otherwise it won't let you select it for Physx.

i have to have two monitors connected to use physx? that doesn't seem right... guess i'll have to do some reading about this physx jazz. even though i do have two monitors connected already.

i've been putting off learning about it since it doesn't appear in articles as very exciting. shame on me.

That's funny about downclocking...these are the first drivers since.41 that DO DOWNCLOCK PROPERLY when in IE or firefox they drop down the clocks. All the other drivers since .41 (the current official release) do not downclock when surfing the net, which drives up temps for doing simple stuff.

These DO downclock right. The only thing I've noticed with downclocking in general is sometimes it seems to stick and you have to reboot to get it to downclock properly; but I haven't noticed that with this set.

A solid set of proper beta's I'd say!

Um, NO, they don't downclock properly. The 177.70's did for me evry time. I've rebooted and rebooted and these have my card at full speed and a bare desktop, or with I.E. etc.

The 177.92 downclock if IE and Steam are closed. You are correct, the 177.70s did downclock even with one or both open.

I'm going to guess that nvidia will renumber BB2 starting at 200.xx. They've done similar with other major driver updates.

If you've seen the press releases, they've already said that 180 series drivers are big bang 2 and they're planning to release it "in september" so we're getting pretty close to their "deadline"

UMMM, Yes they do (for me).

Anyway I rolled back to .89 as the performance in TF2 is much better (I get steady 60fps at 8CSAA with those but with these it drops down in heavy firefights) and I run vsync ON so I need above 60 at all times.

No problems downclocking with .89 either, FYI.

What version of Vista are you running oozish?
Vista 64 and the 83/89/92s all wouldn't downclock if IE or Steam are open.

I'm on Vx64. Only the 177.70's downclocked correctly for me. These NEVER downclock regardless of what's open or closed, fresh reboot or no.

It appears (and is a well known fact) that downclocking is hit and miss for everybody. I've seen thread after thread of folks arguing about it. Obviously there are some anomolies here.

I guess I don't understand...Why would you want to downclock your card? I know that it is only when you are using 2D apps, but what are the advantages of downclocking? Power usage?

you can't select which gpu to utilize physx on if you are running in sli mode. only when you disable sli mode, can you select a gpu to dedicate for physx processing. in sli mode, the physx load is distributed between both gpus, hence the "missing" button.

Beta ugh..

I don't know why that bothers some people. I've always had very good luck with NVIDIA's beta drivers. Why does it matter if the driver is a beta or not as long as it works?

So, the consensus is that these still do not downclock properly? I really hope this is an error on nvidia's part, and not what's to come in future drivers. I REALLY enjoy a cool 45C while I'm browsing online. With the last beta drivers, browsing online had me jumping to almost 58C, and didn't really improve performance much in my games.

I won't be downloading if the downclocking isn't fixed, even if the performance in these is a little better.

Downclocking works fine at a fresh reboot...but I notice that after I've played a game it doesn't. The downclocking works even when surfing etc. at desktop for the most part, but occasionally has that problem I described.

Question is, does it improve Crysis performance? It didn't mentioned it in the notes, but wondering if anyone put them to the test. Saw one user say 4%, guess that is better then decreasing or crashes...

This downclocking problem is not limited to these drivers. The problem that oozish describes above happens to me and i'm running the 177.79 drivers. Asides from the aforementioned problem, how are these drivers?

I really think it improved my framerate in Crysis, specifically on high setting. My single-player campaign is running much better, and my Crysis benchmark framerate went up as well.
