A friend of mine put together this LCD review a while back and I thought it was pretty thorough. He figured it might be worth posting so here it is: 173P Review

Thanks for this review! Best one I've seen yet of the 173P.

Dang, love that view angle, but hate the software only adjustments.

172X or 173P...decisions, decisions...

I was playing some Q3 tonight on my 173p. It does ghost, but mainly when I rotate quickly. It reminds of a low frame rate. I think this monitor is fine for casual gaming. YMMV.

Yeah, I've done a bit of gaming and watched him play a couple of times on this monitor and it does ghost a bit but IMO very little for a "25ms" panel and not particularly distracting.

About the software: he's uninstalled it after setting it up and the monitor works just fine. He also speculates that you might just be able to forgo it entirely and just use built in image adjustment in drivers.

just use built in image adjustment in drivers.

The question becomes, what if they don't make drivers for the next OS you use? I've had hardware like scanners that work just fine but I can't find drivers for anymore for XP (win98 was the last OS supported).

Thanks. Sounds like what I remember of the Samsung 191T, maybe a bit better.

I do have to say that every LCD I have tried does ghost somewhat. I never believe anyone saying that can't see it ghost at all...yet. I'm sure it doesn't look like it most of the time, but it will under certain testing.

I think the Solitare (card drag...not too fast, not too slow) shows the amount of ghosting the best, but it might be a worse case situation and not a good test for determining actual gaming results.

Umm, why would they stop making VIDEO CARD drivers? The panel itself doesn't need the software, which was the point of my comment.

Oh, sorry. Thought you were talking about the monitor drivers. Glad to hear that you meant the video drivers! Good to know!
