Which would be the best from a price/performance standpoint? i'm considering getting a 710t because its within my price range. If anyone can reccomend other lcds, I want something at least 16ms or lower...

710t > 172X in everything except for it's color and included wall mount
710t > 2001fp in quality and price/performance ratio
710t < 2001fp in resolution/size

If the 710T is in your price range, then you probably can't get a better LCD.

i've been thinkin bout gettin a 172x because of the design... but maibe $100 is a bit too much... isn't the 2001FP a great deal? on sale, at $750, its unmatched for anything over 17"

You realize that by getting a 172x, you're spending $100 dollars to downgrade quality (24bit down to 18bit, PVA panel, etc). The only bonus of that is the style. In my opinion, that seems messed up.

I only say this because i needed an LCD for laning and this fits perfictlly in my bag :D Oh and its A REALLY GOOD LCD.

Except it isn't better. It's a dated 18bit panel that is outclassed in every way in the performance sector.

You can do better then 700 for the dell 2001fp... I got it for 709 delivered plus 100 credit back to my credit card for the price match from 999 to 899... Also they gave me another 100 off coupon to use for future dell purchase... So after factoring everything I got the Dell 2001FP for 509 delivered and no tax... can't beat that...

stretching it a bit far...

I've placed the 2 next to each other and while the 710 is a bit better its nothing to get that excited about...

I'd probably go for the 2001FP simply because its more LCD for the money.

ok ive had enough of this, listen buddy ill make it clear - BUY A 710T! all other monitors suck compared to it, so the 172X is better looking are your eyes gonna be fixed on the frame the monitor its in or the actual lcd panel?

710T for men
172X for girls
2001FP for trailer trash

you know what to do!

710T ALL THE WAY!

I have 2 of the dell 2001fp and they are the best thing for the money... 1600 * 1200 can't be beat at that price.... for the price of the two dell 2001fp I paid I still can't get 1 hp l2335...

Ignore this post.

I agree with everyone else that the 2001FP is a great LCD for the money. You get 3 more inches then the 710T, and there isn't that much of a performance difference.

The guy above obviously loves the 710T, but hasn't tested the 2001FP out, nor has he did any research on it for that matter. I hate posts like that :(

If the 2001FP is out of your price range go for something 710T though ;) Oh and also make sure to try and find the best deal

Exactly how I feel... The dell 2001fp can also be use as a tv monitor if you have speakers hooked up to it or get the soundbar from dell that can be attached to the dell 2001fp... One thing the samsung can't be used as... Also PIP is a big plus... No matter how you slice it spend the little extra money and you will get alot more for it...

ok, dont get me wrong the 2001FP is good but this guy wants a monitor in his price range so wats the point in buying a more expensive monitor when i he can get the same if not better quality with a samsung monitor bigger is not always better expecially if he has a price limit.

Don't forget, it's end of the year time, just like the car business. Shop daily for your 2001FP and you should be able to pick it up for a song. 20" vs 17"? You shouldn't even be having second thoughts.

I may not be a huge Dell fan, but hell, how can you beat their current deals? You can't!

i want to like compare thin in sum store... but the 2001FP is like a dell exclusive, and i don't know anyone who has it... so, the 710T is a 8 bit panel? cauz i know the 172x is a 6 bit... maibe ill get the 710T, but if i can convince miself to spend the extra money to get a 2001FP... and anyways can u tell me how exactly u got that 2001FP for bout $500 cauz thats like half off lol (if i can get it that cheap, then thats mi monitor)
edit: i also heard about problems with the 2001FP... are these like isolated, minority problems, or are they like widespread problems (screendooring, lots of bad pixels, etc)

For only $100 or so more than the price of a single 2001FP you could get 2 710Ts. Now, maybe my math is a little fuzzy, but 2560x1024 is better than 1600x1200.

well when u use dual monitors, u put it side by side, so one number should be bigger than the other (ex. 2500x1200 or sumthin like that) u can't jus cut up the monitor and make it a perfect square (that woulden't work well would it?) but the other person said he got his 2001FP for $500 which is pretty close to $400 of the 710T... maibe ill wait for the 2002FP whenever that is (lets hope its in time for the holidays!)

To be quite honest with you, whoever said he got his for $500 was BSing you. If such a deal ever existed it would be all over the forums. Maybe he purchased it second hand, which is not a very good idea. My point is that for the extra money you get 3 more inches of lower quality LCD; you may as well get a second higher quality 710T instead.

well i think he mite be rite, because i have seen sum people getting them for like $600 because of all the rebates...

I had a 2001FP for about 5 days and the screen door effect and overall fuzziness of the picture was horrible. My VP171B was much better, and the 710T I have now is just much better then the 2001FP and the colors seems a little bright/vivid then the VP171B.

I'd rather have 1280x1024 excellent picture quality then 1600x1200 of crap.

and I think someone mentioned you can almost get TWO 710T for the price of ONE 2001FP

okok, so where can i get a 710T for less than $400?
Dell is currently running their 10% off special on the 710T. ($529.95 list for $476.96). It is possible that they'll run a greater discount at a later date. You can also find $30 off coupons for Dell home, online.

At 10% it won't get you to under $400 - but it'll still be a really good deal for what you're getting.

I bought it when Dell Home has a special 25% off coupon and a $40 off 450 coupon for S&P... It came out to 709.25 shipped... Then Dell dropped the list price to 899 from 999... I called Dell to price match it and they credit me back 100 to my credit card and also gave me a 100 dollar off coupon for a future dell home purchase... So my total came out to 709.25 - 100.00 = 609.25 - 100.00 coupon = 509.25... I love dell for there 100% customer satifastion... It also maybe that my company buys alot of computers from them too... That they are treating very well and I applaud them for that...

What about the Viewsonic VP201B?

It's a tad more expansive than the 2001FP but isn't this panel better built than Dell's?

710t>172x in the 17" area, but if you're to invest for a 20", you might as well put the extra $$ into the Viewsonic

I think I liked the Canadian website there. $1300 is the CAD MSRP.

It can be found at newegg for roughly $850

I have a 710T comming from a 4 year old 19" sony trinitron (18" viewable @ 1280x960).

I wish they had this quality of a monitor in a 18 or 19" monitor, i would have snaged one right away.

Overall though, its good enough.

I purchased mine from Dell.com, it came up to around 432$US, shipped. It was 10% off, and then i got a 50$ rebate off items over 400$ from e-bay for 0.99$.

Also, just to note, that sometimes 2 17" monitors are not better then 1 20.1". Simply because it has more area, does'nt make it bigger.... both of the 17" monitors will display text smaller then 1 20.1".

I have 1 main dead pixle, and 6 other minor ones, so a total of 7 falty pixles from what i can tell, but like i said only 1 is noticible when gaming from where i view my monitor. ~_~ I don't care though.

And yea, back quite a while ago you could get the 2001FP for 750$ shipped, and i guess you could get 100$ off with a coupon. Plus another 100$ coupon (but that does not count in the initial price), so it could have an initial price of 650$US. ~_~, i wish i had got one back then.

The sale was recently... Dell Home had it for 709 shipped... They are now getting rid of the 2001fp for the new model coming soon...
