17 inch or 19 inch?

hi,
i'm about to buy a gaming pc, but i dont know what kind of crt monitor is the best.
i think a 17 inch is the best monitor for gaming, because i think 1280 x 1024 on a 17 inch, looks the same as 1600 x 1200 on a 19 inch monitor. Am i right?
also i think 1600 x 1200 looks better on a 17 inch, because it will look higher datailed on a smaller display. So am i more future proof with a 17 inch display or not?

many 17' wont do 1600 x 1200 with a decent refresh rate

geta 19' inch with 1600 x 1200 - you will get "more" space on your screen instead of squintin on a tiny 17'

an LCD is an option but a CRT is still cheaper, for a 19'
 
1280x1024 looks damn small on most 17"s
It's a better resolution for 19"ers

1600x1200 really needs 20"+ to shine. it can be done lower. but good luck reading text. You'll strain your eyes in normal use. Raise text DPI and fonts and things get funky.
 
an 8ms lcd is very like a crt today. a 17 inch lcd will get you 1280x1024 and look better than one crt. what you need is to get a lcd with 8ms response time no more. if you can't afford one this crt you shown is very good, for crts aperture grille is the best.
 
If you're going CRT there's no point in getting a 17" one simply because they're so damn cheap now. Seriously, forget it. Your choices are either a 19"+ CRT, or a 17"+ LCD. The cheapest solution would be a nice Trinitron-esque 19". You'll be running that at 1280x1024 for normal computer usage, but a decent one can easily handle 1600x1200 at 85hz for gaming.

1600 1200 doesnt need 20+ to shine, you might be blind ;) ;), but i have no issues wth 1600 x 1200 on my 19' trinitron i had (dual 19's actually), nor do i have issues with 1920 x 1200 on my laptop, but it is an LCD.


If you do go 19' CRT TRY to get a trinitron, some of the best CRT's made.

2. does 1280x1024 or 1280x960 on a 17'' lcd looks better or the same than 16x12 on a 19'' crt?(in games)
3. what resolution is recommended for a 17'' lcd?
