16ms vs. 12ms?

Hi, This question may have been asked before but I couldn't find a definitive answer on the forum. I was wondering how much of a difference 12ms would make as opposed to 16ms for ghosting in games. I'm looking into getting a 17" LCD because I need the space in a dorm room this fall, but I'm also a pretty avid gamer and want something with as minimal ghosting as possible. The two main choices I've been looking at are:

Samsung 710T (read about it all over this forum ) which has the 12ms response

and

Sony SDM-S74/B (can't find many reviews/opinions on it, but hear good things about Sony LCDs) which has a 16ms response time.

I'm just wondering if 16ms would be sufficient for gaming, since I've seen both Sony and Samsung LCDs (not the same models, but like a model or so down from these) and I like the way the Sonys look, but I couldn't do a gaming test on either of them. Also, the Samsung has a much smaller desktop profile and bezel.

If anyone has any opinions about the Sony or response times, it would be much appreciated.

Additionally, has anyone here bought from www.Monitorsdirect.com ? I was looking at buying from them because supposedly they have a risk-free guarantee, meaning if there were any dead pixels at all you could send it back to them and get a replacement, free of charges. Newegg I've used for a long time, but thier policy for dead pixels is 8, which seems high, and the manufacturers themselves (Samsung and Sony) are equally high.

I had a 30ms NEC 1860NX and it was quite good with games. UT2K4 had a few blurs, but it was good enough. I doubt I could tell the difference between a 12 and 16ms lcd, and I am a self proclaimed videophile. I regret getting my 930SB now.

Thanks for the link...Although I'm not entirely sure what to conclude from that thread. It seemed to be mostly about the image quality of those Eizo or whatever displays. Maybe I'm mistaken but it didn't quite have the answer I was looking for.

Here is what I think:

Different people have different eyes and accept different things. To some, 16ms will look just fine, others will not be happy with it. This is also true for 12ms displays. You really have to see for yourself. I have ony owned a 12ms display (710T) and see no blurring, ghosting, anything, but I have heard of others that still did not like it. I think you have to see for yourself because there will be varying opinions about what you really need, and how big of a difference it makes.

However, I can give a thumbs up to the 710T.
