1680x1050 resolution

Purchased ViewSonic VX2235VM, can't get 1680x1050 resolution. ATI and ViewSonic told me to update drivers/software for both the card and the monitor and now I do see 1680x1050 resolution as an option from the ATI Radeon 9200 PRO but when I select it, the LCD goes black and soon after drops back to 1280x1024 resolution. Does anyone know if the 9200 will support this resolution? ATI nor ViewSonic do not seem to know. Is there any card out there that will get me that resolution and not require to much power? This is on a Sony VAIO RS520 with a 266W PSU and a 3 Ghz Pentium 4E with 512 MB RAM. Any help is appreciated. By the way, this PC is not used for gaming since I don't believe it to have the needed power.

Older cards will do 2048x1536, so it's not that the card doesn't have the power, but some cards don't support it.

Maybe there's a custom tool for the ATI cards that will allow it? :)

there is a history of ati cards not working properly with Viewsonic.

It's not the first time I read people having problems with this combo.

Does the card only have a DVI output? Try using a DVI->VGA adapter. It might work.

I finally got it to work by using the card/LCD analog connection. In all I had to install latest dirvers/software for the ATI RADEON 2000, get rid of the DVI cable and use the VGA 15 pin cable to connect the LCD monitor. I'm guessing that the card does not support the higher resolutions through its DVI interface. Thanks for all your help.

Yeah I had the same problem. DVI-I outputs carry both digital and analog signals so if you used a DVI->VGA adapter, it would have also worked.
