1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Primarily gaming (MW2, DoW2, DA:O), web browsing. I'm looking to get into some light music production via guitar recording as well.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
~$1500 not including the monitor (s). Tax and shipping included.
3) Where do you live?
Anchorage, AK so kiss UPS "Ground" goodbye!
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Existing specs are in my signature; all will be replaced BUT the PSU, Speakers, and Sound Card.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
See above, exact PSU specs are in my sig.
6) Will you be overclocking?
I don't plan on OCing right off the bat, but an OC friendly build would be preferred, my current rig has been lightly OCed and I'm apt to try on the new build.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Will be buying one Dell U2410 for certain, possibility of three for Eyefinity.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
No rush, but would prefer end of January/beginning of February
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
Crossfire would be nice but is not required. Firewire for certain as most of the best home recording interfaces are firewire. Decent OCing ability perferred but not required.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
I will be purchasing Win7 HP 64-bit.

My current rig was primarily built 3.5 years ago and the only subsequent upgrade being the 8800GTX added in May 2007. It's getting a little long in the tooth. My main impetus for the upgrade is my desire for a 24" monitor, and I know my current rig will not be able to push native 1900x1200 resolution to my liking for gaming moderately current games.

I've been out of the hardware loop for a good long while, and PC gaming in general. I've been seeing a good deal on Eyefinity and would definitely like to try my hand at building a rig that would perform well with a 3x24" display, probably in portrait mode for FPS games and RTS.

Here's my first stab:

Antec P183 $149.99
Samsung F3 1TB $89.99
Sapphire 5870 $399.99
G. Skill Ripjaw 2x2GB $93.99
Windows 7 HP OEM 64-bit $104.99
LG Black 8x BDROM $89.99
Intel Core i5-750 and Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P Combo $364.98

Total is ~$1300 before S&H, which adds another $160 to the cost.

I've seen Kyle's articles where he's running an overclocked i7 (the 920?) and 6GB of RAM or more, is that really needed for an Eyefinity setup? Most of the games I will be playing are more GPU limited rather than CPU/RAM. Is there any reason for me to go more than 4GB of RAM?

Thanks in advance.

Only thing I would suggest is get the XFX over the sapphire 5870 and may be get a SSD like OCZ 30 GB or Intel X25-V 40 GB or Kingston SSDnow 40 GB.

Agreed, but other than that, I don't see much. Personally, I like multiple DVD drives. So along with that BD drive I'd get two more to have TRIPLE drives! That;s just me. Also, make sure you get a retail BD drive with software to play blurays (like the one you chose). I wouldn't get an OEM BD drive.
