what video card would you guys suggest for a guy on a 150 dollar budget?
 
use 9700 pro or 9800 would be the best, but for brand new I'd say a 256bit 9800se if you can still find them.

the egg has a refurbished 9700p for $130.....
 
PCI Express 6600 GTs are pretty cheap, but you're probably looking for AGP cards, right?
 
It's pretty much a toss-up between the 9800SE(or other less clearly labeled 128-bit 9800) and the 9600XT at this price point.
 
used 9800pro, thats your best bet. make sure you get the 256bit version.
 
IMO, save up the money and buy a 6600GT or if you wait even longer saving up, get a 6800NU or GT.
 
what are your system specs...there no sense in putting a 6600gt in a system that is bottlenecked by a cpu or motherboard.
 
i was in your position too, but i had to decided between ram and a vid card, i decided to wait and save up $$ for a 6600gt...its more cost effective otherwise, youll have to upgrade again in a few months anyway

So what you are saying is that since we all can not spend 200$ dollars on a video card we should just not play games?

Buy a 9600xt, 9700pro, if you can you will be very pleased with how well any game will run.

You could buy a 9600XT or a used 9700Pro or 9800Pro, but the fact is you do get much more performance for a few dollars more. I think that's the point.

A used 128MB 9800Pro AGP with a 256bit memory interface would be the card of choice I think for around $150 today. A vanilla Geforce 6600 is a good choice also at $149.99, but a 6600GT for $200 would be your best bet still. You really can get more for your money with just a few bucks more spent. The 6600GT may not be worth it over a 9800Pro if you already have one, but if your buying a video card right now to upgrade a lesser card or to get a card for a new system, hands down the 6600GT is the better choice for the slight increase in price.

Vanilla 6600 just edges out an FX5950U in Doom3, and is much faster than the ATI X600XT, in fact its twice as fast as the ATI part:

6600GT: 75.1fps
6600: 50.1fps
5950U: 43.8fps
ATI X600XT: 26.9fps


Vanilla 6600 is much faster than the FX5950U in FarCry, and beats out the X600XT here also:
