$150 too much for Project Natal

saw an article on semiaccurate.com that Project Natal could be about 150 dollars, is this too much and who here is willing to pay that price point? This seems a lot higher than the earlier rumors I saw.

No way. Natal seems like a gimmick to me and I highly doubt it'll work the way it has been shown to us so far. I am curious to read to first-hand impression and/or reviews but I won't be biting.

I'm hoping for a $99 price tag. Even at that price it'd have to come with a pretty good game, or series of really good/fun mini-games. However, if it is indeed $150 then it better have some REALLY great software. If the system is truly good at multiplayer games, with more then one person in front of the TV, it could end up being the same price, if not less, then having to buy additional controllers for the Wii or PS3. However, I'm thinking for those who will be primarily playing games by themselves, 150 bucks is going to seem too expensive.

We'll see what happens at E3.

I am far from a 360 defender, actually I could be accused of the exact opposite, but one advantage I can see of Natal over PS3s Move is the price. No idea what Move is going to cost, but Natal can track 4 separate people they claim (although you would need a pretty nice sized room to have that many people flailing around) so for $150 you have "control" for 4 people. I imagine to get enough move or even Wii controllers for 4 people it will be more than $150.

That being said, I personally still want a controller in my hand I think.

I reckon it'll be priced at pretty much exactly what Wii Fit costs. They already know millions of people are willing to pay that sort of price.

Compared to Natal, Move will be a lot cheaper. You'll get the Playstation Eye, Move controller, and a game for under $100.

Right, but if you add in 3 more controllers for Move, it's probably going to come out to at least the same as the supposed $150 price point for Natal. Yes, not everyone wants/needs 4 contollers, but I think that is the way you have to look at it if you're going to compare their prices. I'm really hoping for the $99 price point though.

I'll buy into the idea that Natal is 1 $150 controller that plays 4 people ... where even if the move is $50/each, that's $200 for 4 people.

Just a thought.

Is this coming out for Windows as well. It's hard to get a consistent "YES" for sure answer. It's SEEMS that something should be coming out for Windows, just not sure or the when and what. The Gates reference doesn't mention games but for games that go cross-platform to the PC that support Natal, and there should be a few, I don't see why that Natal support couldn't come along in the port, I mean its pretty much going to work the same way on a PC as an Xbox, and it should run BETTER on a PC because if I'm not mistaken Natal eats some of the CPU cycles of the Xbox, correct? That's something a modern PC has over the Xbox in spades.

We shall see, I guess it's expecting too much to see much Windows Natal support for games but it would be nice and I don't see how that would hurt the Xbox. It would give Natal a much bigger potential audience, and the game support should be easy if Microsoft's not opposed to it.

I wouldn't worry, they seem so heavily invested in this that they'll do whatever it takes to get it into homes. They'll launch at a price where they can make a nice profit from all the early "I'll buy that at any price!" adopters, then they can price it down for the masses, just in time for yule.

If this thing plugs in via USB then someone, eventually, will make drivers for it.

I dunno... I wouldn't count on it (though 'eventually' is a very very long time). Last I heard, much of the recognition software supposedly runs a console CPU core, not in the Natal box itself. While you could probably get a driver up fairly easy to get a raw dump of what "natal sees", going from that to something which successfully maps to input in a commercial game (which is what I assume people want) is likely a big step.

I don't know what the output from the box is, but I don't think it's a very high-level representation.

Games built for Natal are going to be less graphically intense that existing games that are patch in with Natal support.

Its 100% rumored price, and every other indication from analysts have said it will likely cost under $100. Regardless of how we all want to argue or discuss this, we will find out in just a few days.

Show me some must-have software that uses Natal and I'll put down the cash for it. So far we've only seen prototypes.

Additionally, will I still be able to scan in inanimate objects as controllers? I remember the promo video showing the ability to do that.

You see, for as long as I've been alive I've wanted to use my dinner plate as a steering wheel. If Natal can provide me with that ability, I will buy it no matter what the cost.

the rumored prices have been all over the place between 50-150 dollars.. ill just wait til it comes out before i worry about what the price is going to be..

It looks really cool, but I probably won't buy it for more than $80. That's good because if there are few games that take advantage of it (which is pretty certain if past add-ons are a guide), I'll completely lose interest in it before it hits that price. :p

while it looks like you can do some really cool stuff with it, i'm not really all that interested in it. i just want to be comfy on my couch with my controller in my hand. i'm a comfort gamer, lol.

Wii taught me that I don't really enjoy flailing around when I'm gaming. All those tards they showed jumping and flailing around on that Natal demo last year did nothing except make me laugh. I hope Microsoft realizes all the suckers, I mean, casual gamers, that bought into the whole Wii motion sensing thing aren't going to go out and buy another console... they already have Wii! These are the same people that keep a tv for 20 years because "it still works".

Natal might be "cool" but I don't think it's going to sell well, no matter the price. My guess is it will be $129 to $139 and not be anywhere near as good as they showed in those demos last year.

I agree and most "gamers" do also, the only thing I see in Natal is an awesome interface to control your home media, past that I think it's a joke. The PSeye has been out for ever and it never caught on and this is exactly the same just with supposed better tracking and voice commands.

id laugh my tits off if someone got natal working on the ps3 etc

 I expect more from a veteran of 5.4 years.

What? the first thing hackers are gonna do is try to get it to work on the PC and consoles so whats the problem?!! It would be awesome to get a media center that is not a 360 working with Natal

150$ is too much for this.

If people really cared about this, they could have done similar things with webcams years ago.

Oh lookee there, now people can Wii Waggle with all 4 limbs!

I am really interested to see some actual games using Natal. Like "real" games that people want to play and not shit that makes you look like you are having an upright seizure in the middle of a room.

Microsoft has said themselves that Natal (technology) will be coming to PCs (in time). I doubt someone is going to take a hacked 360, load on whatever MC they want an have it work with Natal. Natal has its own APIs that need to be called and written into the application accessing its data. So unless someone codes their own new MC to work with Natal APIs then hacks a 360 and puts it on it and gets it to all somehow work ... its not going to happen.

But seeing your response I can see you were being light hearted about it so its not a big deal. Sure it would be cool to see Natal used on other software, but that likely isn't going to happen since a developer would first need a Natal SDK and the APIs to rewrite any application.

sadly thats what 90% of wii games have ended up being and i fear PS3 and Natals solutions will end up that way too cept for a few choice titles.

Yeah definitely. I think Sony and MS are going to have an uphill battle trying to keep shovelware waggle games off the shelves. I think it could hurt both companies if they just let a bunch of arm flailing bullshit games onto the market.

I have high hopes for the PS Move and look forward to some Wii-Metroid/Resident Evil styles games with much more accurate controls and better visuals.

Natal might be fun for my me and kid, but she really has already turned picky about games at 5 years old

Last add-on I remember releasing at this price point was the Sega 32X.
Just saying.

(but seriously, wtf is going on in that picture? what is the mom doing? that was soooo disturbing....)

Am i the only person who could give a crap?

If i want exercise, i will go run, or even more importantly, get on a proper nutritious weight program. It is crazy, but you will even talk to girls if you do the above.

When i want to play videogames, i want to sit on my ass and be lazy, not dance around like some LSD induced hippie. This is a gimmick.
