second the ath700, i have these, and my other friends have the closed version(i needed it open so i could hear my gf yell at me while we mmo'd together, now that we quit a while ago, not so much).

is there a difference in quality of sound on open and closed headphones

from what i've heard the open design gives a better sound quality but the closed give some noise cancellation and better bass response.

ive been eyeing up the Grado SR60s...audiophile level for cheap from what ive gathered on alot of audiophile sites.

If you're going with Grados, also consider these modified phones. The MS-1 is only $99, and sounds fantastic.

Sennheiser eH2200s. Hard to find, but nice. I love mine. Think I got them very lightly used for like $35-40.

Very flat, so if you like a lot of boom they aren't for you. More than adequate bass though.

Best headphones for under $150 in my opinion :)

For rock/metal/ fast music etc etc etc, yes they probably are, for gaming/movies/sound-stage/comfort, probably at the bottom of the list.

What are you using the headphones for G3rr01?
