Does 14,400 seem normal for an E8400 3.0GHz, 9800 GX2 Stock, 4gig DDR2 8500, Asus Rampage X48? I just built it and ran 3Dmark 06. Seemed a little low, but everything as at stock speed. Does it seem around the right score?

Thanks

There is nothing wrong. (3DMark is useless. Look to real world game performance instead.)

QFT, 3dmark is more of a cpu benchmark than anything else now. It weighs so much of the score on the cpu's performance, thats why quad-cores get crazy scores.

with my old e8400 at 3.6 with my 9800gx2 I was getting high 15k, so probably accurate.

Yup, I managed to break 20,000 with my quad at 3.7Ghz and 9800 GX2 712 mhz core. With my E8400 @ 4.2 my score dropped to about 18,000 and stock (cpu, ocd GPU) was like 16,000. Time to start overclocking ;)

I have the same system as you dude.

Asus 9800gx2
E8400
Corsair 4gb 1066 mhz
Asus rambage formula

All stock,is brand new machine and my first build.{afraid to overclock} :p

3dmark06 score is = 14,780

Yah looks like the primary difference is the extra points 3dmark gives for a quad. My SLI 8800gt with a Q6600 @ 3.0 scores in the low-mid 15k range. Your system would more then likely edge mine out in any real games though.

I would love a score like that. With my weak rig I get 9k in 3dmark.A big part of the score is the cpu,I noticed it when I looked at my totals and my 2.6 x2 is killing me.I can still get cod4 at 1280x1024 maxxed out to run 90fps MP tho so it doesn't bother me

Forget about the Synthetic benchmark Jocky's!

Both the Q6600 and the E8400 OC like crazy. Both are great in their own right for gaming. As earlier posters said, 3DMark uses way to much of it's scoring based on CPU.

Forget about 3Dmark........A lower scoring rig (with a better GPU then cpu) can get much lower marks but provide way better real world gaming performance. Some games like Fear use very little cpu.

Peace

With my Q6600 @ 8*400 and 8800GT @ 700/1950 I hit high 14612...+/- 100 at times... on speeds I run.

It may of been higher.. that was before I oced... some more.

So....... I don't know.. all relative... I guess...

I am running WinXP btw.

My rig with my Q6600 at 3.6 and my 8800 Ultra overclocked to the sky gets about 15500 but I can assure you your rig would do better at most newer games.

A friend of mine who works at a service desk at a local computer store did a exact thing as yours benching to see what score his new 9800GX2 would give and else he has the exact specs as you and stockless. He got 18,867 for his 3dmrk06 score. On 3dmrk vantage he got a bit over 8000. What I think is that the score that you have their is too low for the high end set up you have there!
