I need to buy some new speakers i "accidently" hooked up a 300w amp to my speaker system (Creative Inspire 5100) and randomly it died. (if dying is going out in a flaming blaze then im up for it) So i guess now im in the market to buy new 5.1 speakers any suggestions in the $200-300 range?

To make useful recommendations, you need to give proper information.​
  • Give your budget.

    How much are you willing to spend to listen to good sound? You might think this computer hobby is expensive but, if you cared to, the amount you could spend for audio equipment can make the money you spent on your shiny new computer look like pennies. However as with computer components, there is (generally) a curve of diminishing returns, where more money brings smaller improvements. However, unlike computer components, audio gear does not become obsolete nearly as quickly. Good gear can give years, even decades of excellent service.​
  • Tell us how and where you might use the equipment.

    Do you use you computer audio to listen primarily to music, do you play lots of games, and do you ever watch movies on your computer? List a few kinds of music, games, and movies you like. How loud do you listen? It’s also very important to let us know the physical situation that the system will be used in. Give us the size of the room, and how the speakers are going to be placed. If you have a small space, you might not need to get a surround system with lots of speakers.​
  • Tell us what other audio equipment you have on hand.

    It makes little sense recommending uber-speakers if you plan to run them off some crappy integrated sound implementation. Tell us about things like old soundcards, old speakers, or old receivers. Where available, old components (especially old speakers or receivers) might be rolled in to the solution to produce good sound for rather little money.​
 
tell you what i have. logitech z-680's and grado 60 cans with audigy 2 oem. sensible, not that expensive, sound nice, easy to configure, and and speakers can also use rca/optical out on a soundstorm setup if needed.
 
5.1 speakers eh? $300 budget eh?

In order of desirability. The 680's have an integrated dolby digital decoder, if you need it (NForce 2 with soundstorm) buy it. Otherwise don't bother.
