Getting a new 46in in a few hours, and cant decide between these models. It will be used in a well lit living room during the day, and all dark at night. Have Directv HD, PS3, 360, PC, and Wii. I dont watch any sports, but play FPS games. So fast responce, good viewing angles, non-reflective screen, and HD audio over HDMI in to toslink out are all a must.

I have it narrowed down to,
Sony EX400/EX500,
Samsung C530/630,
LG LD520/LD550
Toshiba G300U

AVS forum says the EX500 has horrid input lag, around 60ms (3-4 frames). Though, Im not sure if that testing was done in game mode or not.

There isnt enough difference in the EX400 and EX500 imo for the extra $220. So now Ive got it narrowed to,
Sony EX400
Samsung LNC630
Toshiba G300U
LG LD550

I would look into that as the EX500 is the best performing screen with the Samsing C630 in 2nd, but it has 45ms in Game/PC mode. You may also want to conisder putting the 220$ saved on the EX400 towards a 24" gaming monitor with no input lag.....just a thought.

Its for the 360/PS3/Wii. Im going with P2210Hs for eyefinity on PC.

Game/PC mode are sometimes seperate things. For example on my Samsung 950 it has a Game mode that looks horrible and can't be adjusted as it is one of the "Entertainment Presets." But by labeling a certain HDMI port "PC," there is slightly less input lag and more PQ adjustments. I would really look into the Sony though sense regular LG LCD's are usually weak. Not sure about the toshiba though.

You could also get a plasma as they usually have the least input lag. The Sharp LE700 is also a popular LCD with little input lag.

Trying to keep around $1200 or less after tax and warranty.

The Sammy's HDMI 2 is the PC input, the rest can be set to game mode. I would plug my 360 through the PC input since it has the lowest lag and can adjust the settings. Then the rest I could care less about lag.

The Sony and Samsung are my top picks right now. I like the Toshiba because of the price. The LG is there because they usually use IPS panels which has less input lag.

On my way now.

When I got there, the sales man Ive been working with was fixing a connection to the C630. So at first, that one wasnt on. The Toshiba and the LG were side by side, and they were mixed. The LG had better darks, but the Toshiba had better color. By then he had the Sammy on, which was only two screens away from the LG and Toshiba. It took two seconds to knock the Toshiba and LG out of the running lol.
The Sony's were about 15 steps down the isle, so I couldnt really compair with them. But walking back and forth a dozen times, I saw no difference between the EX500 and the C630. They were both priced cheaper ($936.99) then they are online, so I started going down the list of features I wanted. Both had them all.

So it came down to two things, the input lag and the reflectiveness of the screens. The Samsung in PC mode is supposed to have less lag then the Sony, and the Samsung had slightly less glair from the lights (he tilted them towards the ceiling). So, I walked out with the C630, $1189.56 with 4 year warranty and tax. If I dont like it, Ill take it back for the Sony, but doubt that will happen.

The new 2010 Sharps have low input lag as well, the 810UN i think it's called.

OP here's a rare thread that compares input lag of different TV's, def an important thing to consider for multiplayer FPS games: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1131464

There's some new Sharp TV info in the last couple of pages.

Sony and Samsung TV's tend to have high input lag compared to Sharp and Panasonic, even in game mode, LG's are a mixed bag ranging from good to terrible, many Toshibas are above average input-lag-wise.

Edit: never mind, i see you purchased a TV already, hope it works well for your needs :)

Congrats on the set. The Samsung is an excllent set. If you have issues with input lag there is also the LG 5PK550 plasma which gets excellent reviews and should be around 1000$

The LG 5PK550 plasma has 46ms lag over VGA and 86ms lag with HDMI.

Source: The Plasma input lag thread.

Panasonic seems to be the only brand plasma with relatively low input lag for whatever reason.

Wow my bad, I thought it had low lag. Such a shame that many of the better tv's have so much lag

Ive looked at that thread a few times, and some others over there. Those are where I saw the EXx00s having bad input lag. There is a thread that shows the C630 having from 0-25ms lag when using the PC mode HDMI input, so hopefully that turns out true.

Just got it hooked up. Pics coming soon after calibration.

Calibrated it for the 360 so far.
Played some COD:Classic and BF:BC2. There is almost no lag that I can notice. If I very quickly tap the trigger as fast as I can, by the time my finger is off the trigger the gun is in the proccess of firing. So its not instant, but its plenty good enough, even for fast passed shooters.

Pics of unboxing, setup, and calibrated shots,

(my cam isnt the best :( )

Here are a couple better shots. Both with quick calibrations, havent touched the color options yet. The BF:BC2 is 360 over HDMI, the pic from TV is Directv HD over HDMI.

And finally, some 1080P Blu-Ray of Avatar (from HTPC via HDMI). Also a shot of web browsing.

I'm looking at picking up a 52" 810UN Sharp. This TV looks amazing in store and has awesome sound for a flatscreen.

Anyone have one?

I kinda miss the days where the one and only consideration for tv's was screen size. Sometimes, options can be a bad thing!

I myself am looking for a new tv. My room is dark and small (around 12 x 12?). I was thinking of a 32 to 40 inch set. I just started to look at options nad my head is about to explode. I will probably never pick one. It took me three months to buy the 52 inch Sony RPTV LCD HDTV in the living room 5 years ago after making billions of trips to every store on planet Earth. The Pioneer Elite Plasmas of the day didn't help the decision much either. Ran me $3500 at the time and I must say that even though it doesn't do 1080P the picture quality is still amazing.

I'm still not sure if I want plasma or LED LCD.

I just want an Amazing Fish that changes it's stripes to swim around my fishtank!
