13" TV to 100" !!!

Shens i'd probably say... might work, but the image quality would probably be terrible etc etc...
 
Its too hard to get anywhere near good enough looking.

The principles are there, and the image can be projected on the wall but the outer edges of the image is way to unclear and the picture from the tv is no where close to bright enough even with a pitch black room.

Don't waste your money.
 
I can't believe anyone would pay for that. It is such a simple principle and there are several websites that tell exactly how to do it, no charge. Basically, it works, but it is pretty low quality and you need a damn dark room to be able to see anything. All you really need is some cardboard and a fresnel lens(sheet magnifier). Just do a bit of searching and you will find the plans for free.

I just got the kit off of ebay. They say their lense is 8x instead of 3x. It only cost 15 bucks. It is worth a try...

I'll post back and tell ya how it works...

17 bucks is a ripoff.

I will tell you how do do it right now.


Take TV measure tube.

make an open ended box that fits around the screen. Make it about as deep as its width.

make sure all corners are sealed light wise (use a solid tape etc.

Paint the inside 4 surfaces flat black to reduce light reflection.

Buy a lense, prefurably a large GLASS magnafying glass or one of those square large plasticc lenses (no bigger then the box.

cut out a slider that goes inside the box to hold the lense. basically a board that fills in the open end.paint it black as well. make sure no light gets in.

make sure the box is secured to the front of the tv around the screen. again has to be light sealed. now you will have this box ont he fron of your tv with the one side (opposite of the screen open. Also you will have your board that fits into the front of the box with the lense mounted directly in the middle. put that is and make sure no light gets in (use tape etc to make a seal.

now I think you have to turn the entire tv upside down as the image will be reversed.

Also you will have to reflect the image into a mirror as it will be reversed side to side as well. (point the unit at a mirror that is on a 45 degree angle, then have the image reflected onto the wall/screen.

once set up, it will take like up to 2 hours to focus properly. basically you will be sliding the bard witht he lense in and out away fromt he screen int he box until the picture is focused right (has to be very precise)

all the while the room has to be PITCH dark with almost zero light and the tv will have to have the brightness all the way up.

Lense wont be the problem, it will be how dim the tv is compared to a real projector. A real projector puts out WAYYYY more light then a tv or even a computer monitor on max.
 
I thought it was bad to turn TV's upside down - or is it just bad to put them on the side? Or is it just a wives' tale?

Nehoo, even if it doesn't work, you've got two fresnel lenses. And those are pretty cool. I wish they'd tell how big the lens is but I didn't see. If they're big enough you can use those sucaks to burn shit real bad outside using the sun. Like whoa hole through your hand bad.
 
i've seen these on ebay. my immediate reaction was and still is RIPOFF. think about it. companies wouldn't produce expensive equipment like projectors if this solution really worked, they wouldn't need to. even it it sort of works, i doubt the image would be clear enough to be able to watch for say a 2 hour movie. just like a digital picture, you may be able to make it bigger, but the quality will get worse and worse the bigger you make it.

I think it is worth a try. I emailed a guy that said he bought the same exact thing as me and he said that it works great at night. I don't play games or watch tv in the daytime anyhow...


oh and I'm only looking to make the projection about 40-50". So, that might help with the dimness and the blurriness.
 
Well I look forward to hearing how well it works. I may just have to play around with that myself.

lol, another huger problem is if you want it 40-50 inch, it would have to sit like 3 feet away from the screen.

even 100 inch is only like it being 8 feet away. the unit ends up being fairly large too making the thing even more pointless.

Ahh well coulda waited for advise about this projecter first instead of handing them money.
