12v conversion kit for Eheim pump?

So, I can pick up an Eheim pump fairly cheap....but I don't want to have to run an additional 110v line out of my rig into the wall outlet.

I know Innovatek sells the whole setup for around $110 (Pump, 12v conversion)...but that's over $70 I'd have to pay JUST for the freaking 12v setup.

Does anyone know of a cheap adapter (sub $30) or some sort of mod I could rig? I saw that I could buy "12v replacement boards" from various companies, but these are about $40-50...

Setup a relay. There's plenty of hits on google. It will start when your computer starts.
 
I am a total n00b when it comes to electronics...any chance you could elaborate or post a link to something that'd work?

Anybody know where I can get THIS converter unit? Doesn't seem like Innovatek would make a propietary attachment....I imagine it's an Eheim part.

It's made by Eheim yes. It's sold seperately, but you stated that it's too expensive.

What it does for the HPPS pump, besides allowing it to accept a 12 volts, is to help boost its head pressure to that of an Eheim 1048 on an otherwise 1046 level pump (at stock). If you're a silence freak, it allows you to turn it into a very low flowing pump with low head pressure. If you want more power, it allows you to kick it up a notch and raises the head pressure and flow for more power. I don't know if it would work on anything higher than a 1048.

To do what you propose would need electronic know-how or you will need to use a relay switch.

Another thing would be to get a power cable pass-through, like Asetek bundles with their non 12v Waterchill kits. You would hook the pump to the pass thru and the pass thru into the power supply, followed by the power line from the wall. It's the same as having a card, but it would hook up to the back of the case, not the wall.
