128x64 vs. 128x8

I purchased an Acer Aspire Revo and it only came with 1 GB of RAM. I have read that you can upgrade this system to up to 4GB. I purchased an additional 2 GB (2x 1GB) in the hopes that I could bump up the memory to 2GB. After installing the new memory I cannot get Linux to boot. I get a whole variety of kernel panics. If I drop back to the original RAM then everything is fine.

I immediately thought that I purchased the wrong RAM, but the only difference that I see is that the installed RAM is 128x8 and the new RAM is 128x64.

The BIOS recognizes the additional RAM and I am running Linux's memory test application (pre-OS boot) and I get a ton of errors.

I've tried using both new sticks as well as one old and one new stick, but no combination works.

Is the 128x8 vs 128x64 my problem?

Might I just have bad RAM?

Thanks,

I just bought a different stick of RAM and the system works. The working RAM is-

Patriot PSD22G8002S (DDR 2GB PC6400 SODIM) Single Module Speed 800M

So, I don't know if the other RAM was bad or if there was some subtle difference that I'm not understanding, but I was able to upgrade the Acer Aspire Revo with the stick shown above.

Thanks, //Rob

do you know the voltages for the different sticks?
