128MB vs 256MB, quiet cards

I'm trying to plan out my ti 4200 w/ 128MB of RAM replacement. It just doesn't cut it in the three games I play the most (Doom 3, UT2K4, CS:S). My end result is to get a video card that can run at my Dell 2001FP's 1600x1200 native resolution without stuttering (never became an AA junkie, so piling that on is nice but not important).

Right now I'm gravitating towards 6800NUs, especially since Gigabyte makes a passively cooled variant. However, I'm somewhat concerned that not all of these cards have 256 MB of RAM (Gigabyte's included).

I remember reading in the Doom 3 guide that 256MB of RAM definitely helped performance, but are there any other games that benefit significantly? I'd probably need around a ~15-20% performance delta to consider getting a 6800NU or GT w/ 256 MB of RAM given the ~$100 price difference. Pointing towards benches or [H] style tests would greatly help my decision making process.

I would definitely prefer a silent video card. I'm currently running an Antec Sonata, Zalman 7000AlCu, ti-4200 with fan unplugged, Nexus 300W PSU, and Nexus 120MM fan. Ideally my computer would be no more loud after upgrading the vid card. If I want to go to a higher end 6800 or GT, are there any with quiet coolers already used on them? I've read enough about NV Silencer 5 troubles, so I'd much prefer to buy a card that already has it integrated.

Thanks!

I have read that the MSI 6800nu is quiet. I think you can get it at newegg for $292. Or what I am going to do, because I want mine to be quiet as well, is get the BFG 6800nu from Outpost for $250, then get a NV silencer 5 for like $20 something and hope that it is pretty quiet.

The 6800 GT's beat the non-Ultras by more than %15 so don't worry about that. If you google for 6800 GT review, it will give you tons of reviews comparing it to other cards, including the 6800NU.

Get the cheapest 6800nu at newegg.com for $270 and try the soft mod to unlock the pipes.
