why do they make monitors with this native resolution instead of 960 so it matches up with 800x600 or 1600x1200 scaling wouldn't it decrease the quality loss if you were to run games at a lower reso?

What I don't understand is why game makers ignore this resolution when so many people have 17 or 19" LCDs with this native res.

1280x1024 isnt a normal 4:3 aspect resolution like 1024x768 / 1280x960 /1600x1200 etc. ..I think the question should be why are so many LCD's using this odd 5:4 aspect resolution.

The person who made that stupid 1280x1204 resolution should be taken out back and shot! You get an almost square monitor because of the horrible aspect ratio, DVD's look absolute crap on it...seriously, these people must have been on XTC/LSD or some other hallucinating drug when nailing down those specifications...

5:4 aspect ratio isn't too bad if you use it on a CRT.. but at least you have the option to use 4:3 without loss in quality. 1280x1024 fixed resolution LCDs though are truly evil. Even if games were to support it, they would probably wind up just stretching 1280x960 anyway.
