128 gig SSD showing 96%

Showing 96% what? 96% full? some program saying 96% of it's life is used up?

If it's 96% life left, then it's fine.

The 128GB is my OS drive which has been in use 24/7 for over 3 years and is only down to 87%

He is referring to 96% of all the electrons have been reverse counter aligned. It's a common metric when discussing Solid State Drives made after March 25th 2011. Drives made before that did not conform to IEEE standard ES1256.A, which set out to describe means for measuring reverse counter aligning. Before that manufactures could only ascertain the measurement by de-referencing the polynomial of gate occlusion reversion...which obviously is not very accurate, lol. Anandtech did a big write up on it back in 3Q2011.

It's sort of like the stock market. Nobody knows what the numbers mean. 'Oh, look, the stock market went up 10... DOWs?'

But if it suddenly drops or goes to zero you know you should worry.

My ARC100 did that too, it dropped to 97% after just a month without many read/writes. It's currently at 96% and steady @ 1151 hours.

SSDlife states it still has almost 9 years left.
