I am currently using an old promise tx4 300 sata expansion card & need an extra sata ports
to accommodate a few more 2tb hdds

Using win 7 with software raid and not sure which path I should go down

For future proofing I was thinking of getting the LSI SAS 9201-16i, 16 port HBA non raid card which supports 6gb/s. its around 380 @ provantage. The other option I was thinking was 2 of the 8 port AOC-SAT2-MV8 card which will be 1/2 the price of the LSI

this is not a pc that will be on 24/7, only once a week to back up data from networked pc's

would I notice any difference between using a 3gb/s vs 6gb/s controller on the sata 3 2tb hdd?
any suggestions?
