1155 vs 1366

Did I read right that LGA1366 comes later this year? If so, would it make sense to wait for that in hopes that future chips will stay 1366 for a while, therefore upgradeable with same mainboard?

1366 currently exists and is EOL - no new chips coming out (maybe some minor clock speed increases). 2011 will be out later this year

Yes the new 1366 is coming later, the current 1155s are weak! and just the 1st round.

No you will not be able to use the same board you have now(saying you have a x58 1366), the new 1366 will require the new chip-set as well, x69 or what ever they're calling it.

I heard it was the XDS short for the xDoggyStyle where intel gets to ream us in the rear time and time again by offering us a "mainstream" platform and a "enthusiast" platform with a million chipsets in between and some can overclock, some cant, some can use an IGP, some will cause the second coming....

No I meant a socket 1366 board from later this year, to be able to be used with future 1366 chips, if that's to be the new enthusiast standard (for a year or 2, lol). But then if they always need new chipsets anyway, then it's pointless...

Don't put your money on it... I am guessing that will not be the case just like it isn't the case now. Why would it change? They make there money with change, they change it and you have to upgrade, just like you will have to if you want the newer 1366 than there is currently.

Except for the fact that they destroy anything currently available for under $900, and we have no clue about how they will perform relative to 2011

I have not seen a single review that shows they "destroy " ... course they are better but destroy is such a strong word for such a little upgrade

I wouldn't really say it "destroys" everything available right now...I'm not sure why this is being repeated so often.

Clock for clock it's not really any faster than any Nehalem. At higher clock speeds it will be faster than other chips of course, but so will anything else at those same clock speeds. It does however have some nice new features, is more efficient, and can possibly overclock higher.

Yes, it has gotten out of hand. The only way 1155 destroys 1366 is in price. Everything else, IPC, power, OC is really incremental except in a few benchmarks. The fact that you get all that for a fraction of the price is a big deal if you're on a old system like I was (Q6600). LGA2011 will almost certainly restore or increase the difference between the mainstream and the high end. I'm thinking the gap between 1155 and 2011 will be wider than 1156 and 1366.

This always happens when people compare the next gen with the previous generation. IMHO, if you have a 1366, 1155 doesn't really offer any reason to upgrade. On the other hand, unless you need a six core monster or the PCI-E lanes there is no reason to buy a new 1366.

The i7 2600K is quite a good upgrade for anyone who currently owns a pre-nehalem CPU. Otherwise, LGA2011 is the way to go. Most especially since it will also support Ivy Bridge.

So who buys a I7 1155 and leaves it stock. It was almost designed to be ran higher and faster.

Since the GTR has a glass tranny and motor alot of people leave them alone atleast until the warranty is over. The GTR isn't a Supra or 03/04 Cobra by any means. They're very delicate.

Actually the GTRs transmission has been fixed. Its all in the ECU. You can program the transmission to bump up fluid pressure that will hold the clutchpacks more firmly and hold more power. You can do so many things to the transmission once you get into the ECUs code. The transmission is actually a very good quality unit. Its very similar and the same people make the ones in the Mitsubish Lancer RalliArt and Evolution X MR.
How do you think companies are putting down 1200HP and running low 9 second passes?

socket 1366 has already been out a long time, were you guys sleeping or something? lol.
socket 1156 too has been out a while but now is been replaced by socket 1155.
socket 2011 will be the higher end coming in the end of this year maybe. and it will replace socket 1366 which currently is the highend socket for now.

If you are looking for the enthusiast board, wait for the socket 2011, the x68 boards.
