What exactly is a 110 Cross Connect?

I know it has Telco history.

So in a building entrance, you punch down the backbone into 110 blocks? From the 110 is the horizontal?

Building entrance to 110 to Patch panel, to switch to server?

I am missing something here. Can someone please explain. Have googled and googled and have found no order of operations for a basic Lan/Enterprise.

Newbie looking for help with a visual.

What exactly is a 110 Cross Connect?

Just a connection between 110 blocks.

Block A connection to the switching/routing of the network.
Block B connection to the jacks on the floor

You need at some point to connect A to B (unless you have enough port space to have all connected at all times). The connection of the two points is your cross-connect.

(disclaimer, I haven't even held a punch down tool in over 6 years)
