10gbe home network.

Maybe? In order for that to work you'd really need to get a quad port sfp+ card. (Meaning it has 4, 10gbe ports on it) If you used a QSFP+ port and only plugged in one of the breakout cables to the card, you'd have a 10gbe link. I honestly don't know if that would work or not, because I've never dealt with 40gbe adapters. It might not like only having 1 of the 4 plugged in, I really don't have a clue because I've never seen 40gbe in person before. The backplane on 6 figure storage equipment isn't 40gbe capable (Unless it's brand new using 12gig SAS x 4), and you'd better have a hell of a lot of 15k drives to get there. Or if you only have 6gb SAS for your controller, you'd need at least 10 high end SSDs to keep that saturated.

If you want to pursue 40gb go ahead, but at that point I think you're well beyond anything most of the people even on [H] have ever played with.
