So I got tired of this damn SP35P2 q6600 shuttle running so hot.

70c on the Northbridge just isn't acceptable.
I yanked the "oasis" cooling for the mobo, threw away the thermal pad for the CPU power transistors, scraped off the wax NB crap and tossed the fancy aluminum "oasis" cover and cleaned of the white silicone thermal grease on the SB and replaced it all with AS5 and rebent the heat pipes so everything sits flat....

Results? 10c lower temps on the NB. Yes, 10c lower.

I lapped the lame shuttle CPU HS and dropped from 61c to 50c on the CPU also. Although Core 1 is 2c higher than the rest.

All of this with 2xSMP(100%) clients running of course. Since no one in their [H]ard mind would think of running anything else.

Bottom line? Screw the manufacturers' standard setup, do it the [H]ard way.
Currently running at 59c MB with CPU cores at 49-52...ambient is 22c.

It's a Shuttle, with stock fans....this is a good thing.

Nice work sir.... and you may have just given my lazy ass the inspiration I need to work on my SMP boxen's cooling solutions.....

I just need to finish off this tasty cocktail I'm currently enjoying and then perhaps I'll go out to digital's tool shed and fetch the ol' belt sander and get after these damned warped slabs o' copper otherwise known as Arctic Cooler 7's:)

Honestly, the chipset cooler in one of my boxes sounds like a bicycle with a playing card in the spokes... I really do need to do something about that soon....

What's your OC on that? Did you just do the BSEL mod for your Quad?

BSEL modded then upped it a bit to 341 FSB so 3067MHz
vCore is stock at 1.23 (1.25 drooped).

Awesome work there, relic. 10C is huge, wish I could obtain that on my hotter machines without having to resort to something extreme like purchasing a TRUE (no pun).

BTW, what motherboards are used in Shuttles anyway? I have always wondered if they were proprietary or some standard FF like mini ITX, etc.

Shuttles are proprietary MBs.

Great quality parts, but a bit pricey. I guess you pay for the small size with a bit of a premium price. I avoid them except when size matters.

Like when SWIMBO doesn't notice that 4xShuttles are the about the same size as one tower.... ;)

Manufacturers is always lazy when it come to install the cooling system properly... Do it the [H]orde way ;)
