ive posted on other boards/forums and have received the utmost rudeness and unfriendly responses... i did a search and didnt find a quite similar thread so ... i come here to ask for help and not be shunned away.please bare with me..

I just installed my h50 on my 1090t last night. temps are around 28C at stock everything. i thought that it would be lower as i have a Haf 932. but whatever.. i ordered 2 GT AP-15's last night as well.

i have read of how great this chips are at Overclocking. I want the same results.

What i need guidance in is the voltages for the cpu, and the cpu/nb idk whats "safe" at a certain speed.

for example: one guy has his at 4.1Ghz with 1.45 volts (vcore). Too me this is too much. but i am retarded so i shouldn't speak...also he just oc'd the cpu bus to like 260mhz.

this is where i get confused even more. What should i use? the multiplier or the cpu bus? what about the the Hyper threading option? [ht] in the bios

i have an asus ma89gtd pro with 4gigs of mushkin ram rated 1600mhz. 7-9-7-24-1t. i have it at 7-8-70-20-1t. i can go lower. some people are running these at 7-8-7-15. long story short;great ram.

Conclusion: i have good hardware just no experience in overclocking smartly and effeciently
multiplier vs cpu bus?
voltages at what ghz is good? whats too much?
should i lower my ram speed but oc the cpu bus? or keep it at 1600 (or higher) with tight timings and just use the multiplier?

thx for the positive non-bashing replies. if some of u have this chip, what specs are u running at? thx:D

not sure how he got 4.1 out of only 1.45 v, most of the thubans are needed 1.5v to hit the 4.0 and above.....that being said, do multiplier with your 1090T, multi jump on mine puts me at 4.0 with 1.49v(actual, 1.537 in bios), and is folding stable.

are you going for extreme OC? or just casual?....specs for me-

1090T- 4.013 GHz, 1.49v
Asus Crosshair III - 2.8 GHz NB
OCZ Reaper DDR3@1600 - 1.7v
Corsair H50 with 2 Antec Tri Cools (rated at 90 CFM)
Antec 1200 Case

...temps are at ~40 load, depends on fan speed, and ambient, will max at 45

currently just going casual. im not a mad scientist looking to OC madly and get every ounce of juice out of this chip

that being said im like an average joe looking for a stable +4ghz clock, preferably like 4.2 since im using a H50 i can obtain that.

im not going to be running prime95 or stressful apps 24/7. im gaming mostly. black ops atm is heavily cpu dependent and i could see Ocing helping. so all i would be doing is running that game. and teamspeak, and steam, xfire.

so, u say use the multiplier. how high does it go? cause it would be 21 in order to get 4.2ghz. (200x21)

whats a safe voltages such the vcore and the cpu/nb be?

also i know i have to disable cool and quite, but anything else?

he has 1.47v going into it(note the actual reading not the set), he has the 1055T(which cannot multi OC), your 1090T is easier.......and i said most, there are tons of variables, 7** series boards NEED the ~1.5v in most cases, however the chip itself does need the higher volts, especially early production run chips.

there is no need to disable CNQ, it wont hurt it, however Turbo Core Should be disabled when overclocking, i personally disable CnQ because i never have down time on the CPU.

There is no Hyperthreading in AMD systems. It is "HyperTransport" and when given as ~200 Mhz is a reference clock for other multipliers.

With the Black Editions I would only bother with the HT reference clock if
A) I wanted to overclock my RAM beyond available multipliers and/or
B) my CPU-NB could overclock halfway between two multipliers.

For example I can overclock my RAM to DDR 1700 but my CPU-NB is maxed at 2.8 and my CPU at 4.1. If I raised the HT to 212 Mhz to get the RAM to 1700 I would have to drop the CPU and CPU-NB multipliers and the net result would be negative.
CPU 19x212 = 4,028 Mhz
CPU-NB 13x212 = 2,756 Mhz.
Those clocks are more important than the RAM so I stuck with multipliers for my overclocking.

AOD has a tuning reference at their web site.It will give you some idea what may be achieved. The sampling pool was small at the time,so overclocks may vary.It also gives definitions of various terms.

since its a black edition processor the only 2 settings you need to play with are the cpu multiplier and cpu voltage. since you are running an H50. my recommendation would be to use all the numbers posted above as reference. find a starting point.

if it was me overclocking the processor. i would start with the voltage at 1.50v then start with a multiplier of 18x which gives you 3.6ghz. stability test it and check your actual voltage with cpu-z. make sure there isnt a lot of vdroop at full load. from there raise the multiplier to 19x and test again. if its stable and your temps are good you could try raising it to 20x and see if thats stable. if not increase the voltage or drop the multiplier a half step to 19.5x and test again.

the max safe voltage is 1.55v since you are running decent cooling you can exceed that to 1.56v if you want but its completely up to you.

you also have 1 other option if the bios supports it. once you have found your max stable clock that you want to use 24/7 you can try increasing your CPU-NB multiplier to try and reach 3ghz(stock is 2ghz). you may have to raise your CPU-NB voltage. this will give you added memory bandwidth. but again your choice to do it and your board may not support it.

notes to remember:
try to stay under 1.55v
disable CNQ while overclocking(can re-enable after you have finished)
disable turbo core(or what ever the feature is called in the bios)
try to keep your temps below 62C
AND HAVE FUN!!

thx guys for the replies.

i have someone recently on OCN forums said he would lead me through this but im glad i got these replies as all information helps.

thx will post when done (wont be till after friday-only day off)

honestly its a lot more fun trying to do it yourself then to have some one tell you exactly what to do. at the end you will become so addicted to overclocking you will wish you did it yourself. but good luck.

honestly i dont know what the hell im doing. been on 3 forums and all said different.

i talkd to a guy from OCN forums last night over the phone. he helped me and explained if better than anything ive heard.

it was fun because we play around with it and got it stable but right now my cooling isnt the greatest. my h50's fans are not up to the task. i have 2 GT AP 15's on the way.

stable atm at 4ghz ~1.40vcore

im not done tho. were gonna jack up the
bus speed and nb frequency (currently at 2800mhz-going for 3000mhz) later.

btw prime95 is stable. unfortunately im not running atm cause im busy i need my cpu..
