I've been out of the loop for about a month but what the hell happend to the 1080ti market? Is it mining or has nvidia cut supply?
I see used Tis selling for $1,000-up...

But as a miner, you're more wiling to pay that price since you'll likely get it back eventually. As a gamer, it's an immediate loss of $400-500 on top of depreciation to what it'll be worth when you do sell it down the road to upgrade.

in fairness, anyone can mine.

Orddie I'm a miner too.

So, gotta apply the flames every which way.

Damn miners!

Damn gamers!

DAMN!

Same boat here. Got a basically-new 1080ti a few months back for $650. Out of curiosity, just looked at the price of a new one... WTF.

It's going to get to the point where game development will start to be affected.

when monopoly money bubble pops there will be alot of cheap cards flooding the used market. hoping it pops sooner than later.. its getting annoying.

2018, buy card, mine half of its purchase price for 6 months, boom its back down to retail plus maybe a rebate.

Id love to get a vega64 + freesync monitor, but im not taking that gamble.

I do not mine and game about 3 times a week. I am seriously considering selling my 1080TI. A grand is very tempting. I am kicking myself for feeling greedy about selling my 1070 FE for 50 short of what I paid 6 months after buying it. This market is insane. The way i see it, I could make a miner happy, and using patience , parle they money into a Kingpin down the road just for the hell of it. I just do not know how long the shortage will last

All the mine scenarios don't take into account the risk of the currency continuing to decrease. With South Korea's heavy taxation announcement today BTC headed even further south. ETH is under $1000 now and the darling of 3 weeks ago XRP is $1.30. You are still essentially making money for "free" (minus electrical and system wear/tear) so its always a bit of a win, but instead of 6 months, it could become 9 months, or 12 months to reach that goal. And 12 months from now there could be a recovery in stocks, or new product making the value of your card tank.

The coins with solid fundamentals will survive. Ethereum has a variety of real-world applications beyond being monopoly money. Even in the event of a total market crash, Ethereum will survive and rebound. Privacy cryptos like Monero will survive and thrive. And cryptos that make sending money via the Internet as fast and painless as just using a credit card will live on. RaiBlocks and other DAGs, I'm looking at you.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is a useless dinosaur on its way out. Whether they will be able to collect enough suckers to pump it up again just because of "muh first mover advantage" remains to be seen. It is slow, expensive, and vastly outclassed by more recent cryptos. MySpace died and hopefully Bitcoin joins it in the graveyard of outdated technology.

If you have iron hands you can't lose because crypto is here to stay. This particular bubble will collapse at some point and you may have to patiently hold on to your bags for a few years, but out of the ashes the good ones will live, just like the dot-com bubble certainly didn't kill the Internet.

Your smartest play at this point would be to just sell that 1080 Ti to the miners for $1,000 so that they can spend 6-12 months waiting to earn back that $1,000 they just spent buying it from you and then you invest that $1,000 into a good crypto instead. The biggest winners here aren't the miners, they're the investors.

Most people around these parts who mine also game on that same equipment. Lots of silly bullcrap about mining lowering resale. If the owner kept the video card cool and knows what they are doing then it's not a problem. I never run mine over the mid 60s and to me that is still a bit warmer than I'd like. I'm working on getting those reigned in a little further.

I agree with wiggly and I think those who spend cash into currency are more likely to have bigger gains. That all depends on what they invest in and how it does. At least with mining equipment you have some stored value even if it is just 50% in the equipment itself.
