have a LCD 37" HDTV capable of 720p and 1080p output. I went to play God of War 3 a few days ago and noticed it defaulted to 720p. Checked the box and was actually shocked to see GoW3 only supported 1080i and 720i/p.

loaded the game up and its just seemed washed out and muted compared to my friends display that defaults to 1080i.

Im wondering, does my TV even support 1080i since it defaulted to 720p or is 720p better than 1080i?

Thanks

don't quote me, but I don't think most (any?) TV's that run at 1080i actually run at 1920x1080. I could be wrong on that, but with my old 42" 1080i LCD, the max supported resolution was something like 1280x800 (it was some oddball resolution, slightly larger than 720) even though it could take a 1080i signal.

It could of been my crappy TV, but this is how I understood it. Again, I might be wrong on that though.

Is your friends TV a native 1080P display? or does it max out at 1080i?

Im pretty sure his TV supports full 1080p. its just defaulted to 1080i over 720p while my tv did the exact opposite.

oh, nevermind. I read your post wrong.

is your PS3 set to output @ 1080p? Thats an odd issue.

Yea, all my blu rays run in 1080p and Uncharted 2 looks great, it seems to just be God of War 3

Just leave it at 720p, that's the real resolution of the game anyway.
Only a tiny handful of console games are rendered at full 1080p.
