1080i component cabling quality?

I'm considering buying a gateway 2485W for about 400$. One downside is it has no HDMI connector. But, It does have 2 component connections. I was going to run component from both my HD satellite receiver and up-converting 1080i dvd player to the monitor. Does anyone have an opinion on whether going from RG59u to RG6 premium component cables over a 12 ft run is worth and extra $10 per cable? I've never actually used component and have no basis to judge.

thanks

1080i needs a piddly 37MHz analog bandwidth and RG-59 is already way overkill for that. Wasting money on RG-6 is.......words fail me.

O.O

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think component can handle 25' ? Is there a practical limit? I noticed Blue Jean Cables recommends only 20' for their cheaper stuff but then they are taking about 4.5 gig transfer rates.

I bought the cheapest 25' component cable i could find on partsexpress.com and im having 0 issues with it, s-video cables on the other hand.... that a whole different story.

Dont go overboard on beefy RG6 cables.

I assume that you're referring to the 1505F or 1694A cables which have way more bandwidth capability at 25 feet, than is needed for 1080i. From the charts on the Blue Jeans website, they show just 2.5db loss at 71MHz for a 100 ft 1505F cable and only 1.6db loss at 71MHz for a 100ft 1694A cable. At 25ft, the loss would be 1/4 that much and plenty good enough considering you're only trying to send 1080i. 720p has about the same bandwidth requirement (37MHz) as 1080i, while 1080p doubles the bandwidth requirement to 75MHz, though many displays will not accept 1080p via component, no matter what cables you're using.

O.O.

MonoPrice.com has them even cheaper than partsexpress but I imagine that there must be some lower construction quality limit I just don't know if MonoPrice's cheapest stuff falls below that threshold :)

Go cheap and be happy.
And for god sake, do not buy Monster cables!

Despite the inexpensive price of Monoprice cables, they're not of low quality. At the price, there is little to lose. Even in the rare event that they don't work well enough for you, you can still go for the Blue Jean cables.

O.O.

I received my MonoPrice shipment today. The basic 25ft cables appear to work fine. They are EXTREMELY heavy; measuring 3/4 inch wide X 3/8 inch thick. The RCA jacks appear to be better quality than shown in their picture. Only small issue is not uniform length; one cable being a few inches longer than the other.
