well, i'd buy a 2.5" to 3.5" data cable and put the laptop drive as a slave. you should be able to get your data off, and your system may freeze a few times. but you should be able to get your data off.
 
If it's not even detected by Bios in the laptop, then the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter won't change anyhing. Chances are if it's not detected by bios AND it's making those clicking sounds (constantly) then it's a goner.

You can attempt to get the drive recognized by bios by swapping the logic board on it with a good drive of the same type...but that may corrupt the data on said drive even more b/c from what I understand, every drive has slightly different alignment and this is programmed into the logic board.

Try cooling the drive down for awhile (put drive in static bag, then in the fridge/freezer), then hook it up with the adapter and see if it acts any better. This method works at my office quite a bit with Compaq/HP systems that have drive failures. However I don't think it's worked on any that aren't recognized by bios.

leave it in there a few hours. Ive tried this on my moms old WD 40giger after the headcrash managed to get all the photos off it before it warmed up and crashed again :eek:
 
If it's making a terrible clunking noise while spinning, no level of freezing is going to make that laptop drive work. If it isn't physically crashed, then the read/write heads have failed and need to be replaced - by a specialist. Sorry dude.
