Hi Guys,

Can you help me out. Trying to build a computer for my buddy. He is looking at getting a machine from a retailer but I told him that for $1000 he can build a pretty serious machine with decent future upgrade capabilities.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?

A little bit of gaming. Limited photoshop type programs, web, and other general use...

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

Wouldn't want to spend anymore than $1,000 after tax & shipping.

3) Where do you live?

Columbus Ohio

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

None I need all of it.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

N/A

6) Will you be overclocking?

No.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

Currently have a 20 inch. Wouldn't mind getting another one, but that's not a necessity

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

March 2010

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

Would be nice if it had built in wireless.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

Nope

Quick build I put together (changing up my normal recommendations):
i7 860 + Lian Li LanCool

MSI P55-GD55

G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3-1600

Asus HD5850

Corsair 650TX

Samsung F3 500GB

Asus PCI-e x1 wifi card

Probably come up to $1060 shipped (tad over, but probably worth it). If you can find combo's that would suite you better.

edit: bah forgot the OS, are either of you college students by chance? Also you didn't mention if you needed a keyboard/mouse/speakers or not, you need those as well?

I would say no on the speakers, mouse, keyboard.

We would need a Windows 7 license. And neither of us are students so we can't take advantage of the MS program.

I would say i3 530 and 5770 would had your need just as well for the time being on your budget.

K, heres some changes:

Total comes to: $961, may want to add a couple of quiet 120mm fans to the front of the 300.

This build looks good already. Probably get this combo and save $10.

VIDEO CARD/OS - ATI Radeon HD 5770 + Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit both for $259.98

The Antec 300 + Antec EA500 is more than enough for his needs. The Core i5 750 and Radeon HD 5770 consume little power. But, he is still under his budget if he gets the Antec 300 case + Antec Neo Eco 620 Watt psu combo.
