$100, What to upgrade?

Well I just got MO money :D, and have $100 to spend, I would prefer to be able to buy the hardware at a local pcclub /bestbuy/circuit city/compusa. NO frys store here in my city.

CPU: Pentium 4 1.8ghz(400FSB) Northwood @ 2.4ghz(533FSB)
MOBO: MSI 6533...more info here
RAM:One stick of Infineon 512mb of pc2700 was $200 when i got it.
Hard Drive: 30 gig maxtor diamond max plus 8 (plus 8 i think)
VIDEO: ATI 9800pro soon to be my friends while he gets the money to pay for it. (im kinda doubting hes gonna get the cash though, so i might just keep it than trying to sell it once more)
SOUND: Onboard ac97 audio

I was aiming towards a new motherboard vs another stick of ram

what do you guys think I should get?
 
You could get an ABIT IS7 or similar ASUS board for under $100. Other than that get some cheaper Kingston or Corsair RAM to supplement what you've got. You could replace it with faster speed stuff too.
 
but see thats were im stuck, i cant decide on ram vs mobo, I would like to gain performace.
 
Depends on what you mainly use the system for. No use for extra RAM if you don't do anything that doesn't require it.

If you game, I'd say RAM.

If you want some general increase of performance, which you might not even notice, and a board with nice features, go with a new motherboard with the i865 chipset like the Abit IS7.
 
don't buy RAM if you're planning on upgrading the mobo anytime soon. RAM that's that slow won't go into a new mobo, and you don't have the budget for anything faster (plus, buy something faster now and it still may be too slow later).

With that setup, I see 2 things you can do:

1. upgrade the hard drive. That thing has got to be painfully small, and you can usually find 200 gig w/ 8 meg cache hard drives for $99 if you look hard enough. Easy way to speed up hard drive accesses and get more space.

2. wait and save your money. Once you have $200 or more, you can really start to revamp the system.
