Hey
I hope this is the right place to ask, but lately I've been having a problem with my cpu usage. I on windows xp, One process in particular called System is using anywhere from 30-60% of my cpu causing me to be at 100% all the time. It also uses very little mem at just 240k. My computer doesn't start up that way, it just seems to happen after a while. Also I think it might be related, but when this happens, all my web browsers stop working (i tried firefox, iexploer, and chrome). They can't load any pages, but my Aim and outlook still work. Once i restart the computer everything is fine again. Thanks for any help

Have you ran a Virus scan? If you don't have one you can try online ones. Windows 1 care Live online or Trendmicro Housecall are decent.

Running SP1 [edit: If on XP, get SP3]? If not, get it. Update graphics drivers, chipset drivers, and bios. Failing that, maybe try making another account, login to it and don't install anything and see if it happens there as well. Also try disabling start ups programs.

Probably a bit out of your league, but ProcessMonitor might help you find the culprit.

Thanks for all the replies, ill try all of them out. I'm on sp2 atm and is running Avast as my virus scanner. Been 2 days and its still at it, only found a few trojans. It happened again during the scan so now ill just wait for it to finish and restart.
