think im gonna build a new rig & go w/ the 5850. plan on then "upgrading" my wifes P4 dc w/ my current core2duo. thing is it has a 8800 gts which i think is overkill for her reading email & doing facebook. thinking i will hold on to it as either a backup in case ever needed or put it to use for physx if the multi vendor driver support comes back.

so what card would people recommend for win7/aero, maybe some hd streaming & typical desktop use. gaming not a requirement. i think $100-125 would be more than enough to handle her daily duties.

Sounds like all you want is a $30 HD4350 or $50 HD4650.

The HD5750 Or HD4870 512MB is the ~$125 price range.

Typical desktop use? Might as well just let her keep the 8800GTS, unless you really want to save on power or something. Buying a new card would be a waste if all you wanted that 8800 for was a backup or possibly physx. Save your money and give her your current card, plus in case she ever wants to play any 3D game she won't have any problems.

If you get lucky you can get the GTX 260 in that range. It's happened a little while ago (slickdeals).

Or the HD4870. Saw it on slickdeals for $104. But really for desktop use, save the power and money and get a real cheap card as already said. $100-125 range are pretty decent gaming cards, complete overkill for internet browsing.

I'd say go passive too, if you do get an appropriate $25-50ish dollar card chances are it will come with a crap fan that will die in 6 months. If you have a choice and it will fit go passive.

Just buy a HD 4350 or 4550.

Low power consumption = Less heat = Passive HSF = No noise

GTX 260 is a good choice. this is the lowest price i can find.
