The 1 Tflops, what type, if any single desktop system aproaches that performance level? Mayby the 5GHz oc system with raid sata array hd and since it is calculations per second, the gpu does not seem to matter.
It seems the Linpack benchmark (super computer) is all cpu and memory. (?hence why 4 & 8MB on die memory for server cpu?)
The DOE's BlueGene L beta-system holds the record at 70 Tflop (32,760 power PC cpu cluster,) works out to about 2 Gflops per cpu.
Floating point operations per second (FLOPS) is the measure where real-time processing applications compute numbers using floating-point registers.
 
If it takes 2000 square feet for a computer at 70 teraflops, I don't think we'll be seeing anything remotely approaching that speed on a desktop for some time to come. You could run a computer with 16 consumer processors, if such a motherboard exists, and still not come close. You're still talking about equipment at least the size of a room in order to get 1 teraflop.
 
An to think, the Teacher at the "practical arts" center at St. Pats (in Saskatoon, which is now closed) said that the Mac G4's were capable of almost 4 Teraflops (which I knew was probably way off, but didn't speak up..) Come to think of it, he said Human eyes can only detect up to 30FPS (which we all should know is wrong.)

1 Teraflop is a helluva lot of work, I doubt any PC in the next 2 decades can even come near that.

It depends on the processor, its Kind of like how an AMD 2.0GHz proc can perform just as well as an Intel 2.8GHz processor thing, it all depends on the design of the processor.

But I'm guessing, Yeah, somewhere around there..

Well, if it was an Intel processor, it would have to be 4000 Ghz, but an AMD could match it at 2400Ghz :D
