The 1 Tflops, what type, if any single desktop system aproaches that performance level? Mayby the 5GHz oc system with raid sata array hd and since it is calculations per second, the gpu does not seem to matter.
It seems the Linpack benchmark (super computer) is all cpu and memory. (?hence why 4 & 8MB on die memory for server cpu?)
The DOE's BlueGene L beta-system holds the record at 70 Tflop (32,760 power PC cpu cluster,) works out to about 2 Gflops per cpu.
Floating point operations per second (FLOPS) is the measure where real-time processing applications compute numbers using floating-point registers.
