1 TB MyDisk

The only think i can see from the two links is

My Book™ Pro Edition™ II

Extraordinary Capacity
Extra Data Protection
3-year Limited Warranty

EMC® Retrospect® Express Backup and System Recovery Software - Powerful backup software that includes full system backup and recovery, easy scheduling, and encryption.

My Book™ Premium Edition™ II

Extraordinary Capacity
Extra Data Protection
Backup Software

WD Backup Software - A simple file-based backup system that's extremely easy to use.

So their software package might differ.

Edit: The PRO version site seems to mention 3 year warranty twice, while the Premium i haven't seen once

I highly recommend Retrospect, for what it's worth. It's not very intuitive, but once you figure out how to schedule backups, incremental stuff, and so forth it's very easy to actually do the backups.

Retrospect is a rather pricy program. $119 for a single WinXP machine and the server product is around $730... ouch.

... but it's included with certain My Book drives:

which makes it quite appealing ;)

I cannot see any reference as to what software they are using on WD's site. Not that I don't believe you, but I'd like some 3rd party verification.

I'll be the third party... it's listed on the product page for the "My Book™ Pro Edition™ II" given by the OP.

That is the Premium ES edition. Not the same as what the OP linked to as the Premium edition.

So the difference is that the Pro edition comes with Retrospect, while the Premium comes with WD Backup. The Premium ES comes with Retrospect again... Boy am I confused.

I would assume the Retrospect Express isn't quite a full featured as the retail version of retrospect.

Sure. But you wouldn't be likely to notice the difference in home applications. Take a look at the product matrix - no tape drive or removable disk (Zip, MO, DVD-Ram) support (although it does do DVD-R and DVD+R, etc), doesn't back up network machines - but if you can physically plug the drive into the machine (and it runs a supported OS, of course), you can back it up. "Retrospect" itself is more a network-oriented thing; most people don't need that kind of power.
